87 olds cutlass-transmission-help

hi everyone new on sight. I have a 87 cutlass supreme brougham with a three speed, with 60,070 miles could anyone help with identifying transmission, how can I tell if it is a thm200-thm200c or thm200-4 ,has tag on right side but doesn't help .

If your gear selector shows (PRND21) its mostlikely a 200 or 200c. If it shows (PRNOD21 or PRND321) its a 200-4r. Another easy way to tell is climb under the car and look at the trans pan if it looks similar to the picture attached (a square with a corner cut off) then its a 200c.

All 1987 Cutlii used the lockup torque converter, so if it's a three speed, it's a TH200C. If it's a four speed, it's a 200-4R. Those were the only options.

it is (prnd21) and the pan does have a corner cut , not having problems with it just like to know for future reference . thanks guys

Yup then thats a 200c. Mine didnt fail untill 138,000. But I was doing a lot of racing and hard acceleration back then. Not something you should do with a 200c .

If your just using it as a daily driver, keep up with the fluid changes and dont get on the pedal too much it should be fine. If it does fail a th350 is a fairly easy swap. Or even a 200-4r if you wanted overdrive, I think the only mod needed is to change the trans cross member.

thanks I like to know when someone ask what the car has,has 60,070 miles and I just changed screen and fluid and rear seal , dont plan on racing ,just doing some upper engine work to help sound ,thanks for your advice ,much appreciated
