77 Olds Cutlass

I have a 77 Cutlass Supreme with a 350-4. Can I put a 72 455 Olds engine in this car and it bolt up?

Although 455's were never offered in a Cutlass in 77, (76 was the last year they made 455's for the Cutlass/442 line) they did offer a 403. The engine mounts and tranny for a 350 should bolt up no problem to a 455.

Here's an interesting link you can browse through for general info. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1973-1...rmediates5.htm

Welcome to CO. It sounds like a worthy undertaking, good luck.

455

Look at my post under Big Block in engines and transmissions, and see if you can help me out with the stamping numbers. I'm new at this. Thanks

The engine is a 455 as identified by the 396021F.

Joe already provided the info about the heads being swapped out. On a 72 block they should be Ga heads.
What does the other numbers mean? 32 means Olds division 1972 model year, m means the engine was built in Lansing Michigan, and the other digits are the last 6 numbers of the original cars VIN.

see sample below

It is a direct swap as long as you have brackets etc for a 455. You may want to think about mating that 455 to a turbo 400 trans as well. The turbo 350 will be ok as long as you dont beat on it too much.

What Allan said AND the 455 can also be determined by a little A after the F as well, So 396021F or 396021FA are both identified as 455 engines.

More good advice.
