You can probably buy a manual on cd from an ebay vendor but my experience is they are harder to use. I like the tactile feedback from having a big thick paper book right in the garage where I am working. The only advantage to digital based data is that you can make a larger printed copy of say, a wiring or vacuum diagram and then back it on cardboard and use it in the shop. Other than that, I would recommend you find yourself a good original chassis service manual on ebay or some other source and use it.

Fusick should also have a shop manual available. I have a 69 service manual for my car and it is my saving grace for loads of info.

In order of priority, you need to get the Chassis Service Manual, the Fisher Body Manual, and the Assembly manual. I suggest that you buy paper copies, which show up on Ebay regularly, rather than trying to scam a free download. These are the most important "tools" you will buy for your car. Used originals can be had for $15 -$25 each.

I have a spare 1972 Fisher Body manual I can part with. It is a reproduction, but the info matches what is in my real 1972 version... PM me if interested.

I agree that the chassis service manual and the assembly manuals are among the best references you can get. Do you know anyone with experience doing this? Thats always a great way to learn without damaging anything. Also, go to the boneyard and practice taking cars apart there so you can learn some of the fitting techniques GM used in the 70's. Some of the way they put cars together will put the words "Huh??" and "you've got to be kidding me" in your vocabulary quite regularly.

You might also want to have a look at any GM Parts Catalogues that show the exploded views and part #, group, and description. Sometimes these provide the little extra details about part location and fastening that aren't always contained in the other manuals. I know that they are really pricey for an original used dealer binder. Consider the electronic versions, they're not always as good because it depends on who scanned the image and what resolution they used, but it is one more source you might want to check out. Usually these go on ebay for around 10-15 bucks and will work with any of the computer operating systems out there.
