welcome. i don't think there is any way to tell. i would say by 1990 there was less than half and of those that was left, most were rusted out getting a bucket of bondo and paint job. now when you find them the bondo is falling out. at least that is the way it is in my area.

What was the source of that number? Low compared to these.

Most of those numbers were for the coupes not the sedans might be the difference.

I know I am responsible for the death of a four door sedan 1982-83. It was the neighbors car. I bought it for $500.00. It was already getting rusty, but ran great.

There is no way to determine something like this with any serious degree of accuracy, and there is no formal source of records for this kind of information. You can only go by statistical scrappage rates, which leads to a survival rate of about 1% on average for the average car after 25 years. Now, obviously, cars that were more desirable at the time, such as convertibles, tended to be kept in higher percentages than cars that were more likely to be used as everyday drivers and eventually used up and scrapped.

There were two versions of the Town Sedan in 1972, the more plain-Jane F-85 Town Sedan, which was not a Cutlass, and the more upscale Cutlass Town Sedan. Production of the former was a very low 3,792, while more than ten times as many, 38,993, of the Cutlass Town Sedans came off the line. Given the statistical scrappage rate, one would guess that there might be around 400 1972 Cutlass Town Sedans still in existence. But it could certainly be plus or minus a large number relative to that. But there are probably not, for example, 5,000 of them still around.
