'70 442 convertible intro

Hello everyone,
I've been on here a long time ago, but finally getting my project going. '70 Sebring Yellow, auto, black interior/top, sport mirrors, sport steering wheel, OAI hood, notch bench seat. Absolutely fell in love with this thing and now it's starting to rise from the dead! I have a couple questions for some of the vets on here if you could help.

1. Anyone know how many 442's, convertible or otherwise, you know of or have seen painted as their original color in Sebring Yellow? Olds Society has no idea and can't find anything other than it being on the Rally 350's

2. I have seen one set up exactly like mine(may have been) on the conver of Auto Exchange magazine in late 80's detailing the 442's. Anyone else seen this or have info would help a ton!

3. With NOS and junkyard parts getting scarce, what part suppliers have best quality stock on hand(Fusick, Brothers, Parts Place, Tamraz's, YearOne)?

Thank you!
-Ryan

hard to say how many were Sebring Yellow, it was a special order color other than the Rallye 350. it is a 70 only color as far as i know. my dad had a 70 W-30 that was Sebring Yellow.

when it comes to new parts suppliers, in my opinion it's Fusick and then all the rest.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I read on Russo and Steele, after I did a Google search on the color, they sold a convertible in this color claiming only 1 of 13. I have no idea where they got that, but would be interested to know. The publication I have in one of my questions is from November of 1983 and the car has small black pinstriping on it as well. Some 442's I have seen do not have this.

I think it would be cool to make a Rallye 350 convertible. Then it would be 1 of none.

Welcome to CO. I have no idea about the production numbers for that combo but it would probably be quite rare.

Agreed, Rally 350 convertible would be amazing, but seeing as how it's a true 442 I don't want to lose that(took me 5 years to find the right car), so maybe a Supreme convertible might be a donor. I can find Sebring Yellow cars, but most have been coupes, and one W-30 convertible. Anyone else see one of these?

Oddly, just found another Sebring Yellow at a luxury dealer in Delray Beach Florida. This one has His/Hers shifter and the one of none W-30 ram air hood. Check it out...wonder if it's as authentic as they claim.

Nice looking car but a lot not right, and the marketing fluff is hilarious, they talk about a beautifully restored car and then blah blah blah about all that was done with aftermarket parts.

Yellow rims were only on Rallye 350s should be argent grey - minor irritant to matching number freaks like me
no side stripes
stripes on hood are wrong (curved on inside and outside and wrong thicknesses)
emblem missing on dual gate
brown carpet - doesn't even look like a badly faded black carpet but either way why go through all of that and leave that carpet in there
C/S logo on interior doors - yes some argue that even a 442 convertible is a C/S but they should be the rocket logo
chrome trim missing on deck lid
panel fit is terrible, not unlike original but again at least make it better than it is - yuk
71/72 sport mirrors
no spare tire
can't tell for sure but looks like an after market hood from what I can tell
Washer jar on driver side - though that is where mine is located
58k seems like a lot for that car

though VIN says real 442 convertible - that is one of 2999

I bought this Sebring Yellow '70 Supreme ragtop locally in 2000. It was posted on Lisa Madsen's old Olds forum. Ridiculously cheap for a 98% rust free body in PA, OAI hood and air cleaner, two sport wheels, NOS fenders, several 455 blocks, a GTO dual gate setup and much more. It also had a 12 bolt Chevy rear that I traded to 507Olds. It had been sitting in that garage since 1978. Wish I could find deals like that a couple times a year. It went to Michigan in ~2003.

Definitely saw some issues with the correctness of the car in Florida. If for someone who knows the basics of the 442's I saw some issues right away. Stuns me sometimes the price variances and asking prices for these cars.

Terry-awesome SY Supreme. Wonder if someone has it back on the road. The Supreme style is what got me on the car. Hardtops look amazing and GM did a great job using them for the 442 convertibles as well. I'm dying to get this dar on the road and hear it roar again. I need all the help I can with geting parts and good places to help restore(mostly body and paint that I don't want to even think of trying myself). Happy Friday everyone, and for those of you that have running cars, go out, fire it up, and that will at least make me fee,l better someone is enjoying their Olds today.

My 442 convert came with small black pinstripes from the factory. I believe the non w30 convertibles came with pinstripes but i am not sure. Please keep us posted on the progress on the resto.

Never trust an auction house for "facts" on a car. There is no source for the number of Oldsmobiles with a certain paint color. There was a Sebring Yellow '70 SX in my area about 35 years ago, and the GM Heritage sold one that they had at BJ a couple of years ago during their clearing house sale. So, the color shows up on cars other than the Rallye 350 and W30, where it was an option.

My brother has a '70 442 convert in Sebring yellow, black top and interior with the narrow black pinstripes. It's a beautiful color but unfortunately his has been rotting away in our parents' backyard for over 20 years. It also has a W25 hood he transplanted from a W30 back in the eighties. Good luck with your restoration, Ryan. Maybe you can inspire my brother to get going on his.
