69 442 Convertible Trunk Lid

My name is Rick and I live in Valentine Nebraska. I restored a 63 Chevy Impala SS Convertible and am now working on a 69 442 convertible. I joined this forum because I have run into a road block and need some help. My 69 was rear ended and the original trunk was mangled beyond help. The guy I bought it from is a 442 guy and has some great ones. He sold me a trunk that came off a 69 Cutlass 4 door and he said it was the same as the convertible trunk. I have run into some alignment issues and I think it is the trunk. I would like to know if those two trunks are the same and if someone that owns a 69 convertible could take a picture of their trunk from the side with the trunk open so I might be able to make a comparison. I would be most appreciative. Thank you and I look forward to using this forum.

Welcome. Four doors and convertibles use the same trunklid. Alignment problems are likely the result of the accident.

Usually, you'd align the lid to the panel behind the window, [top] and go from there.
By wanting the picture you do, sounds like maybe a 'tweaked' lid!
Pictures would help a lot!!

Here's a few shots I just took of my '69 4-4-2 vert, a work in progress. It's kind of messy around the car so please forgive that. If you need other shots, let us know and we'll try to accomodate.

69 442 trunk lid

Thanks a lot guys for your quick response. I should have joined this forum a long time ago. The problem I have is that the slope of the quarter panel at the rear where it makes its sharpest bend and goes down to the rear does not match up with the slope of the trunk lid. The trunk lid does not appear to have enough bend. This is on the quarter panel that had very little damage. Only the very rear top piece has been replaced with a good one from another 442 using the clearance light hole and the round trim hole for alignment. If I change that piece so it lines up with the trunk then the part where the bumper sets is way out of line. I am trying to get the inside part of the quarter panel in that area to line up with the trunk not the most rear part. I hope this makes sense to you I got confused writing it. Tomorrow when I am in my shop I will take a closer look at the pictures that were sent and see if I can determine anything from them. Thanks so much for sending them and all the help from everyone

69 442 trunk lid

I just wanted to let everyone know that I figured out my problem. I thought the piece I put on the driver side quarter panel was unmolested but apparently it was not. This piece goes up from the clearance light and straight back from the bottom of the clearance light. It had too much curve in it and that made it shorter than it was supposed to be therefore causing the alignment problem. Once you guys convinced me that the trunk was ok I knew it had to be the quarter panel. Thank you so much for your help.
