Welcome! I have a 68 442 and have gotten more valuable information here than I can possibly convey in a short introduction. You made the right decision joining this group. Everybody here is so nice. Good luck with your Cutlass. You're going to love it.

Hi, I too have a 68 Cutlass with at 350/350 combo. The 350TH will not be original. The '68's could have come with a 2 speed Jetway. I am happy with my combo. I am always got my eye open for a 455 but I am in no hurry or need for it. Have fun, there is a lot of information here and opinions. Whatever you do remember it's your car.

It is a 2 dr post coupe. You can tell because all the windows are 'framed. There is also a 'b' pillar between the front door and the rear window. IIRC it uses the same 1/4 glass as the ht coupe though.

EDIT: actually, looking through the GM Parts manual it may be the same glass from 68-72 hardtops (not verts or 70-72 supremes) !

Actually, post coupes use a different glass than a hardtop or convert...completely different slide action on the way down...

Good to know. I was looking at the blown up diagram in the manual and it referenced 68-72. Then again, it also shows the pillar and non pillar as part of the exploded view. Just love GM...

I looked at some suppliers like PS Auto Glass. Got my side glass from them and it was impeccable. Maybe try asking them if they have the right glass, or can point you in the right direction. Take a look at this link: http://www.psautoglass.com/store/Scr...idCategory=517 ASK them if this will work for your application.

The reason I believe it is a post? Look at the 'heavy' molding at the top of the window. You don't have that on a hardtop - only posts. I believe the door and rear 1/4 window are fully enclosed by a framework on this car. Naturally, a good side view would be better. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I'm right though...

You could add a vinyl roof to any car. By looking through web images, it appears the post coupes were not that popular. One article I read about 442s suggested that only around 10-12% of production that year was for the post. I realize that doesn't take into account all production, but I imagine the numbers would be similar.

EDIT: here's a pic of a 68 post with a vinyl top. Got this from ROP

Check the main ground from the negative terminal to the block and then the ground strap from the back of the block to the firewall. Next check the connections at the starter.

How about the support/ torque strap/ GROUND STRAP that runs from the side of the starter at the front, to the motor block above? That one got me once. It was a PITA to install so I left it off. It is NOT, as it turns out, totally unnecessary.

I think he's talking about the starter brace. It's a steel brace, not really a strap:
