'65 f85 noobie

Hello, old timer here been around car hobby for a lifetime and grew up in an Oldsmobile family in the 50's. Just bought a barn find '65 f85 4 dr. sedan. Solid as rock, from an 90 something yr. olds estate. Kinda banged up in places, but so rust free, it's worth saving for future generations. Seems like the hobby is more accepting towards the 4 drs. lately, I suppose because of the scarcity of the untouched coupes. What do you all think?

Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the welcome. I will get some pics when I get it down off the jackstands. Just got it home a week ago. Last tagged in '97. Found it with new fuel pump installed and fresh points installed complete with allen wrench poking out of dist. window. Long story short, pumped the old gas out, fresh fuel & a quick disassembly and cleaning of the 4gc and SHE RUNS!

I think you're exactly right. Station wagons are becoming more popular, too. Cheaper way into the hobby as the supply of restorable coupes and convertibles inevitably diminishes.

Finally got to take a test run today. Been piddling with her off and on all week. Took 5 qts. tranny fluid to get it to show on dipstick. Figured I would check modulator valve to see where the fluid went. Pulled it out, no fluid in the vac side of valve and none in the short hose. Put it back in, dropped in gear and took it bout 1/2 mi. down the road. No slip but would not change, unless I stomped on it. Couple more trips and DOH! Forgot to hook the the vac line back on. Shifts great now, but lots of blow by oil on breather. Shame, cause it runs so quiet and smooth. Also going to need a water pump. Havin' fun bringing her back to life though.

I'd drain a 1/2 qt of oil and add a qt of Rislone oil treatment to it. Run it about 500 miles and see if it cleans it up. Also add a bottle of Marvel Mystery oil to your fuel.

have you checked to see if it has a pcv valve ?

when I first got my 65 mine was replaced with just a breather after market one. It smoked real bad, oil even splash out of the fill tube past the top hat

just a thought

Getting a little too excited, I guess. It's got some kind of pvc I guess on pass. side valve cover, but the connecter to breather snorkel is severed. I should know it can't work without vac. Will work on that tomorrow, hope it slows it down at least. Supposed to be running a business, not getting much done there. What's wrong with me, I ain't no kid?!

I'll try that Risoline, couldn't hurt.

Great forum you guys have here by the way.
