Yes, it had chrome and aluminum trim along the bottom, and a chrome strip along the top of the side body line. I plan on shaving the door handles and locks, to give it a really clean look. I love the looks of the car, just want to personalize it.
I really like the chrome along the bottom, but the strips on the side kinda bug me a little. I'm glad you posted those pics, it looks clean without it. I dunno about the shave-n-pop tho.

I guess it's a personal choice. Myself, I like the shaved look. I also removed the chrome trim on the trunk, and all the badging. On yours, the bottom trim looks good, especially with that ride height.
i always like the idea of shaved handles, but it's way to easy for someone to get into your ride... for a thief, when they see shaved handles, they know there is a safety release somewhere...
But i guess if someone wants your stuff bad enough, they'll get it...
Your car looks really mean, if I had a sport, I'd be tempted to remove it all as well

There is always a chance someone will want your ride, but I keep it in the garage, when it's not used, and an alarm helps as well. I get a lot of people asking what type of car it is, most people guess a '64. A lot think it's a Chev, similar roof lines. Also a windshield from a 64 Chev fits, if you need one. I'm looking for a rear bumper, mine has seen better days.

They are not bad, unless yours is undercoated. I removed my by undoing the brackets, instead of the bumper bolts. The bumper bolts are square shouldered, and fit in a slot. It is very hard to reattach it using the bolts, that is why I removed the brackets from the frame. Once it is out of the car it is easier to work with the bumper bolts. Front bumpers are easier to find.

I am enjoying the photos...again the car is slick!!. How many miles on the engine?
What tranny does it have and hows it running. Your engine compartment looks like my 88. I also have A/C and it takes up a ton of space.
I bet your trunk could hold a few imports!!
You mentioned you have shown a few hybrids your tail lights.... People are surprised by the power and speed of my 88

thanks navvet, about 93k on the motor, all original. The tranny is the slimjim. I guess technically it's a 4 speed, with 1st only engaging after shifting from N, R, or P...
She runs reeeeeeally smooth. That's why I bought her over the Lincoln. This car drives likes it's brand new. The power was the 2nd reason i bought her. This car really moves, but I drive it slow and low l )
Trunk is GIGANTIC! I'm convinced I could fit a house in there.

The trunk of my 88 was in great shape. It still has the original trunk mat and all decals are in place. The jack was not in correct place but I found photos of a trunk noting jack and tire storage. There was not rust so I gave it a coat of speckle paint. When I go to shows I always have trunk open...people are always amazed.
The only issue is the trunk lid. This forum explained that the trunk lid manufacturing process was changed in 64 allowing water to get in between metal panels..I am sure the issue is the same with the 98.
If you want to realy enjoy your ride find a long open winding road and have a blast...just be prepared for those curves...it like driving an 18 wheeler!!!!

yup, Mines all original still as well. that speckle coat is a great idea, I think i'll use that.
thanks
I've been on a few cruises with her so far, and love the way she drives. So heavy, and glides like a dream. At first, I hated how easy the power steering was, but I'm starting to tolerate in now... still wish there was a little more resistance tho
BTW, I love the sticker on your back windshield

The "easy feel" of the steering is the same issue I have.I guess after 50 years it gets a little loose. I have been spending all my efforts on engine and safety the last three years. This winter I am going to plan and budget for steering and suspension. I want to keep it stock but at the same time bring the drivability up to the 21 century. The thing with these old cars is if you relax for a second at the wromg time it could be a disaster they tend to go off track quick...like reaching for something in the car and the next thing you know you are on the wrong side of the road!!!!
The sticker on the back window is for all those 60 mpg drivers who have a comment to make on my classic.
Sometimes they just need to remain quiet and be thought a fool rather then speak and remove all doubt!

Two 1964 Oldsmobile Ninety Eights that linger in my memory are a flawless gold and beige 4 window hardtop, that sat for months next to a hedge that grew between the car and the house. I never knew where it went, but it was gorgeous. The second one was the LS in white with that beautiful blue interior that year. My friend Andy owned that car, I drove it once, you could see every fender from the driver's seat. Someone had glued blue vinyl over the driver seat bottom. Other than that, looked like an easy fix. I hate to say I stopped going over there after his "lovely" ex wife had made an ugly remark that involved something tasteless. I hate to think what happened to his Oldsmobiles and antique radios after his passing away at age 45. I would love to get my hands on any 1964 Ninety Eight.
