Question 62 starfire

Gentelmen; another newbie! I have found a 62 starfire coupe,it needs just about every thing,,,I was told this car is one of the hardest to restore, because of the trim(and parts) being so hard to find...I'm an old fart (yes I fart dust) and I hope my information is wrong, I really have a passion for the 62 Star fire..any advice would be most appreciated,,,,,

Welcome to CO

They are beautiful cars once completed, there are some starfire guys on the site I am sure they will chime in with comments on your build. Good luck and by the way please post some pictures.

Welcome...Starfires are beautiful. Especially the 62 & 63's. Just saw a nice looking 62 go for $4000.oo on E-bay. Body looked great but had not run in 6 years.

Welcome to CO. I have also heard that trim is difficult to find, especially when you are starting with none.

The side trim is reproduced but not cheap. Mechanically it's same as an 88. Your worst thing besides trim will be the HydraMatic if it needs attention. No one wants to work on them.

I'll steer you toward www.aaca.org and www.antiqueolds.org too. Lots of Starfire people at both.

I am about 95% complete restoring my 62 Starfire Convertible. There are lots of parts available on Ebay and from time to time on this board. It is not going to be as easy as restoring a Ford or Chevy, where you could replace nearly every part from a catalogue. My car was very complete, but once I started evaluating the trim pieces, chrome and stainless, I started buying pieces that were in better condition than mine. They are cheaper to replate or polish.
Call Steve for excellent reproduction aluminum side panels. You will never find decent panels that match your existing.

Hi car fan,
The post from tpawlik above was referring to me,Tom Pawlik was passing on the information to get ahold of me.
If there is anything that I can help you with or maybe direct you to a source for parts just call and it's good to see another STARFIRE being saved!!!!
