57 olds super 88 speedometer removal/Haunted horn problem
Hi, my name is John and I am restoring a 1957 olds super 88. I need to remove the speedometer to have rebuilt, but am having a problem getting it out per manual instructions. Anyony have any pointers on removing this item?
I also am having a problem with my horn going on and off intermittedly without pressing it. I believe the spring activator behind the horn ring is worn, and needs replacing, but cannot find any for sale, does anyone have a fix for this i
Thanks, John

I may have a fix for your horn components if they are somewhat like a 55. There is a large rubber donut in your steering wheel which deteriorates and compresses which in turn causes it to lose it's insulation and ground out. There is a replacement part available through Fusick and USA Parts Supply, which will work but are thinner and less robust requiring careful attention to the tension on the steering wheel nut or it also will crush and cause the same system as you have now. You might take a look at your motor manual and see if there is something that looks similar to what I have described if different I'm giving you bogus information....Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

It is possible to get the speedo out without removing the entire chrome bezel assembly. First you remove the printed circuit board off the rear of the cluster, then the fuel gauge, then the speedo. It is a bit tight working under there but it is a whole lot quicker than removing the whole bezel assembly.
