57 Olds Holiday Coupe

Just joined the Forum and am looking for some help. I just purchased a "kit car"....57 Olds Holiday Coupe....in a thousand pieces. It is an all-original California car with 57k miles on it. I have the original motor and trans if anyone in interested, as I plan to install an updated engine and trans package.

Anyway, the former owner gave me what says to be a "1957 Oldsmobile Shop Manual" (gold and black cover), but it is basically a jumble of pictures and description of all models from 1939 to 1958. Is there a "real" shop manual for my car that might be available out there, or am I just going to have to figure out where all these pieces go??

Finally, I know I need a set (3) of the rear windows and a windshield. If anyone knows where I might source these items, I would greatly appreciate it.

I live in Austin, if anyone responding is in the area.

Thanks,

Buster Hoffmaster

Welcome from over in Marble Falls Buster. I was looking for an assembly manual
for you but couldn't find such a critter. Closest I could find was a 57 Olds shop manual.

Welcome to the site, 57's are a sweet looking car. Post some pics when you get a chance. The Vintage Forum has a lot of info and a great group of helpful folks. Also post a list of needs in the parts wanted classified section and you can also list items in the parts for sale.

Thanks for taking the time to try to help me. I have the book you sent the picture of, or at least my book has the same cover. Unfortunately, that book has a random selection of pictures and descriptions of Olds from 1939-1958 even though it clearly says 1957 ion the cover Go figure. My book really does not give you a clear picture of how do much of anything on a specific year model. Do you have any knowledge that the book you sent me the picture of is any different??

Thanks again,

Buster

I wish I could help on that but the 50 models are out of my wheelhouse.
The fellas over on the vintage forum as Eric suggested will be your best bet.

Welcome. The 57 is one of my favorite Oldsmobiles from the 50's. As Eric mentioned, post a wanted ad for the parts you need. Somebody might make a new windshield for your car but you will probably have to find used for the back glasses. Since it is a one year only it will take some time. Good luck on your car.

Welcome to Classic Oldsmobile. Good to have another mid fifties owner sign in .I'm not sure if it will fit but there's a '57 4door hardtop center back glass in one at CTC Auto Ranch in Denton Texas.Looks like someone bought the curved corner Windows. I"ll keep a watch out for you. Good luck, Larry

Buster, I just found a '57 2 door Hardtop that shows pictures of one that has all three back windows intact on a site called oldsmobilecarsandparts.com,and on the site it says Okievintagetin.

Buster , CTC Auto Ranch in Denton Tx. Also has a '57 Buick 2 Door hardtop with 3 good windows in the back.
And there's another '57 Buick with pictures at Rowand.net that shoews good back windows (all3). Best of Luck ,Larry

Thanks for the help. Since you suggested I look at a 57 Buick for the back glass, I assume you are confident that this glass is the same as mine. Is that right??

Also, I saw in another post somewhere that the back glass for a coupe is different than a 4-door. Is that correct??

I am 99% sure that the '57 Buick Century 2 Door Hardtop has the same 3 back windows ,but if someone on C.O. owns a Hollander Exchange Manual, it would tell exactly what else would fit. Google '57 Buick 2 door hardtop images, and take a look.
I also think maybe the ones from a 4 Door Hardtop ,either Olds or Buick will work. It just
seems unusual that GM would make two curved glass windows in the same year 'that were different. Hope this helps. Larry

Will someone on C.O. That owns a Hollanders Manual see if anything else replaces the '57 Olds 2 door Hardtop 3 Piece Rear Window, either a 2Dr. Hardtop Buick Century, or the 4 Dr. Hardtop Olds. Or Buick in 1957! Thanks Larry. Larry

Three piece rear windows

If these will print I will show images of the back windows on 1957 Buick Century 2door Hardtop, and a 4 door '57 Olds 4door hardtop. Larry
Here's the Century 2 door

Auto Interchange says the 57 Olds (88 and 98) and Buick (Special and Century) 2 door hardtops are the same. The 4 door hardtop and 2 and 4 door sedans are different.

Okie88....thanks for that. That's good news and bad news. Bad because I have found a donor car with back glass, but it is a 4-doort. Good because I can now looks at Buicks. Thanks you.

Also, can you tell me more about your source....Auto Exchange?? Sounds like something I need to get/buy/join...

It's auto interchange, like a Hollanders. You can find them on ebay for different years and makes.

Would like to clear up one last point since you seem to have access to Auto Exchange. Keeping it with Olds for the moment, are you saying that the rear glass for a 57 Olds 2-door (88 or 98) IS NOT the same as the 57 Olds 4-door?? I think that is what you are saying, but I would like to make sure, because I found the back glass for a 4-door, and sure do not want to buy it if it will not fit. Thank you.

It shows that the rear glass for a 57 2 door Hardtop will not interchange with any other body style. It shows that the 2 and 4 door sedans will interchange with the 4 door hardtop, which is kind of strange. Usually the hardtop and sedan windows are different.
