Hello, hope everyone is having great days.
I have a 1977 Oldsmobile thm 350 transmission. Can someone tell me what the number and letter means on top of the trans case? mine has a C 2.
my reason for needing to know is I busted my transmission case on the right dial pin area of case and I found a 1977 olds delta 88 thm-350 trans. it has a C 3 on top of trans case.
Any idea what these C2 & C3 mean and what the purpose was?? see picture below or lead me to info online or a book that has info also, I assume the the # 7 on the case in the picture means the year of said car??
Sure would appreciate the insight.
Thank you
Rodney
I would say that the C2 or C3 is a manufacturing code for casting and shift. And that "7" is actually a reinforcing rib.
As what Joe said, the tag riveted to the side of the trans will have an application code and date of manufacture.
There will also be a VIN derivative on the drivers side ,in front of the shift linkage, above the lip of the pan. This will tell you which division, year, and assembly plant the trans was installed at.
Thank you for your reply guys. there is no tag. I know its a 1977 olds cutlass supreme thm 350 trans. I owned car when I was 17 and hit oak tree and bent frame bad. sold it to my brother and he droped it into his 1961 Chevy Apache truck.he give it back to me. It hadn't run since 1998. I cleaned it put new plugs in and it still purrs like a kitten with original carburetor. . I'm shocked it still runs really good and oil pressure still within specs range.
Just trying to figure out what the C2 on trans stands for.
