307 Vin 9 85 delta 88

2nd owner of a 85 delta 88 with 6a heads, 107k original miles, cat delete with 2 1/2" pipe to flowmaster 40 series dumped before rear axle, cai, mild cam upgrade.....

What rear end will bolt into this thing directly? I dont mind a bit sticking out on sides of car, also I'm wanting a gear ratio of 3:23-3:42. Posi would be nice but not needed.

EDIT: i have the TH2004r tranny with OD.

Thanks in advance!

Anything rear from a 73-77 A Body will bolt right up too, but you'll more than likey have to chage the gear. Most common is like 2.41 or2.56,

The are 28 spline unlike 30 spine in the 91-96 B Bodies, however 91-96 has the 5x5 bolt pattern

Redog brings up a good point I forgot the 5x5 bolt pattern. You will need diffrent wheels.

im okay with getting a 5x5 lug wheel and slapping my tires on them =) that's not a big deal. Now i dont want to mess with gears other than cleaning them and filling the fluid back up with fresh and then bolt it into the driveshaft and frame. If i have to mess with gears i might as well just buy a new ring and pinion in the ratio i want for my 7.5inch 10bolt 4 3/4 i currently have. I'm at a ratio of 2:78 atm and i do not like the sluggish acceleration, its not that bad, but it would love some 3:23 or 3:42 gears .......

ANd if i go with a 91+ model rear end out of say a old cop car caprice is my only issue bolting the driveshaft into the differential housing and changing wheels to 5x5 bolt pattern? or is there more to it than that?

Where in Illinois are you? I have a few good 8.5s here. Don't bother with the 7.5. they are garbage.

If you find a rear end from an impala ss they have stock 3.42 gears.
