215 Screaming Aluminum in P1800

Hello; New to this forum. Looking to drop a 1962/63 215 Oldsmobile engine in my 1972 Volvo P1800. I have tried using the search forum but have been unsucessful in finding threads/posts dedicated to the 215 engine & 5 speed transmissions that work best using an adapter bell housing. I like performance cars, as I currently own a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa, a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera, a 1972 Volvo P1800E, a 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II FHC, and a 1959 Austin Healey BN6 "2" seat convertable. I would VERY MUCH appreciate if someone could steer myself in the right direction as how to access the threads/posts dealing with my myriad of questions. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area....THANKS TO ALL!!!!....Mark

http://www.aluminumv8.com/tech/tech.htm You may find more info on a a landrover board as they used the engine for almost 40 years in different types. Good luck.

I don't know which five speed you're planning on using, but the GM-pattern version of the T5 bolts up to the stock 215 bellhousing. D&D (link above) sells repros of this bellhousing. They also sell adapters to allow fitting the more common Ford-pattern T5 to that bellhousing. Do a search on T5 swaps and you'll find lots of info on the web about swapping the tailhousing to get a different shifter position.

I don't want to discourage you from the 215 swap, but for that car you may want to consider an Olds Quad4 as an option. Quad4Rods sells a RWD bellhousing that will also accept a T5 and the Q4 can be built to put out nearly the same HP as the 215 - with a lot easier swap.

You should also check out www.britishV8.org for lots more info on 215 swaps, mainly into British cars but there are some others as well.
