1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible
Hi Everyone...I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself and post some pics of my new purchase. I was searching online and found this beauty at a local dealer and went to check it out. The car looked great in and out but when i test drove it, it seemed kind of tired. Slight hesitation on acceleration and not alot of guts. I know the 72's were tuned way down(can live with that) and the hesitation I assumed was a carb issue. It was priced really well so I took the plunge. So far, I've had the 4barrel quadrajet rebuilt, a new intake manifold gasket, and new starter installed. Runs out like a champ now. Will deal with the small tranny leak in the spring.Looks like the previous owner put alot of time and $$$ into it, so i feel lucky to have found it!

The 72's weren't really tuned down at all. Just that in 72 they started measuring the HP differently. Instead of 71 where the hp was based on no load, the 72 was. So basically they're pretty compatible.
The hesitation was carb related wasn't it? You should also check your rear axle ratio. A lot of these cars were built with econo 2:56 gears for better highway mileage.
The bottom of that car looks incredible.
Post the VIN and a pic of the cowl tag and someone here will decode it. Might be information you already know, but then again.....

Welcome to the site - great looking car!
I wish mine was that pretty when I got it... However, she ran perfectly when i got her - no hesitation and lots of go power for a 150k mile 350. Now if she is not run every month or so, she will hesitate off the line. I bet the rubber in the accelerator pump dries out and shrinks after the gas in the carb evaporates...
