1970 Delta 88 Custom in KCMO
Hi everyone,
I own a yellow 1970 Delta 88 Custom four door. It has a 455 Rocket III with single exhaust and a two barrel carb, which my dad calls it the economy version. It has 92k miles and is in ok shape. The engine runs fine, though it does take awhile to start sometime, not really sure what it is, might be the carb. The transmission won't go to third sometimes. It also has a leak somewhere in the roof. Other than that it has some rust.
So basically it needs some work. I was hoping that this site could really help me out since this is my first project car. I really don't know where to start. Just looking for advice, good sites for parts, if anyone knows a good mechanic in kansas city, and anything else helpful. Thanks!
alex
ps. These are the pictures of it 4 yrs ago. I bought it then but had to get a new gas tank, brakes, radiator, and a few other things to get it running. But I went back to school and didn't have the time or money to do anything else. So it sat in my parents driveway where it has rusted a lot more, the hood especially. It is now time to get it back to where it should be!

Welcome to CO. First thing to do would be a good tune up which may be the cause of the hard starting although it could be old fuel, dirty fuel filter, or vacuum leaks. Replace the fuel filter and do a tune up, check for vacuum leaks and fix them. Then make sure your brakes are in good working order. After that you can drive with some feeling of safety and begin doing the other stuff like the rust and the roof leak.
