1970 Cutlass Convertible

Hi All, good to join the group. I've got a `70 Cutlass Convertible that needs a total restore, so will be asking stupid questions for the next 6 months or so..

First one - The car currently has a Pontiac 400 in it, which is coming out to make room for an Olds 455. I found a 1969 Delta 88 donor car, wondering if there is anything I need to know before making the swap?

Also, the Delta has front discs, will they switch over to my 'A' body?

I don't believe the Delta disc's will not fit your Cutlass. You will need the engine mount frame brackets for an Oldsmobile to replace the Pontiac's on the front cross member and possibly some minor wiring rerouting. Other than that it's pretty simple.

You'll need the correct frame mounts for your car. Since you need to buy them anyway, you might as well just get the correct BBO mounts, which are available as repros. Use Anchor P/N 2328 motor mounts to mate to those frame mounts.

A 1969 D88 uses the unique 65-70 full size car motor mounts which are completely different from the A-body mounts, so don't even consider them. Also, these cars use the front two of the three motor mount bolt holes on the side of the block. Your A-body uses the rear two. This will cause a small problem with the lower rear PS pump mounting bracket bolt. On the D88, this bracket bolts to the front motor mount bracket, and the normal spacer between the bracket and the block is reduced in thickness by the thickness of the motor mount flange. Since the A-body motor mount doesn't use this hole, you need the correct A-body spacer for the bracket (or the equivalent thickness in washers) to maintain PS pulley alignment. Also, you'll need the A-body W/Z exhaust manifolds or correct A-body headers.

Also, the Delta has front discs, will they switch over to my 'A' body?
Not even close. Different spindles, different steering arm location, different wheel bolt pattern. You can use the calipers, however, but since the single piston calipers are cheap at the auto parts store, I wouldn't waste my time rebuilding the old ones.
