1964 Olds Cultass intro
1964 Olds Cultass intro
I have a '64 Cutlass hardtop. dark green with a green interior. I bought it in 1987, the odometer was super low, so i knew it had >100K miles. the 330 4bbl was super worn, so I rebuilt it. I also swapped in a TH350, and gave it '70 GM A-body discs.
I drove it like that for 10+ years, and then had to swap the jetaway back in. Was a daily driver for many years.
I'd like to fix it up (again). The seats are shot, and I've realized that's why I don't drive it. Plus the rusted trunk pan lets in exhaust fumes and causes my clothes to stink (with windows down!) plus, its probably not good for my health either.
I'm looking for a few odd parts, and I'll seek some recommendations on fixing the interior. I've parted out a few '64 Cutlasses (though not in the last 10 years), and I've learned a lot of their nuances that I'm happy to share, so try to contribute as much as I can about them.
On my to-do list: redo interior, replace trunk pan, swap rebuilt TH350 in place of leaky Jetaway.
I have several Chrysler A-833's which I love. If there was an easy 4spd swap to use the A833, I'd do it in a heartbeat but it looks like a Muncie is the only way to go.

Welcome !!
If you look up tk65 thread he did a TKO swap to his 65 ? And has a great deal of other tips that might come in handy
Also you can look up therobski granny build or my kids helping with project build to get some pointers on body work tips robs build has a ton of performance changes
Sorry don't have the links off the top of my head but could look them up tonight if needed

Welcome. Chevy used the A833 in 1980s half-ton pickups, particularly the OD version with the 4-3 gear swap. These transmissions have GM input shafts, but unfortunately require a special bellhousing bolt pattern. If you can get the bearing retainer to fit (which is what centers the trans), you can pretty easily modify the bellhousing to bolt the trans up.
thanks for the warm welcome. I'll post some pics tonight.
Joe, I remember you from the old listserv days in the late 90's.
I don't drive my olds much anymore, but I'm hoping to change that. I did charge the battery yesterday, and it cranked right up (maybe it had been 2-3 months). I've always been impressed with the reliability of the car!

The Isky pic is a good one.
maybe around 2002, I parted out a really nice 64 cutlass that a tree had fallen on the rear quarter. The car was all original. I sold what I didn't want to a guy the mid-west. He drove down to GA for the rust free frame, and perfect 330-4bbl. He was restoring a convertible. I always wondered in the car was ever finished with that 330 + frame. maybe he's on this forum...
the red one in the junkyard was a fare find. I crawled yards all through the 1990s and 2000s looking for 64's in GA. I found a total of three: the aforementioned tree crushee, this red one, and a coupe not far from here but in a yard of a guy so unpleasant that I never tried to buy anything off of the car.
the red one was in a yard that was on the side of a mountain, and the tail of this car sat in a creek bed that rose above the axle occasionally. the car was toast. I got what I could.
