1964 Jetstar 88 Project Car
1964 Jetstar 88 Project Car
Hey guys!
I'm new to the older Olds vehicles. I have had a few (3 I think) mid 80's cutty's. Im currently in the process of talking to a guy about buying a '64 Jetstar 88 that will be a project car. My current question is are there any aftermarket manufactures that make sheet metal or suspension parts for these cars? I was looking at a '65 98 as well and it had a little more rust than I was comfortable trying to fab for which is a shame because otherwise it was a pretty nice car. Im no pro at fab work but patch panels and stuff I can do. To my current knowledge there isn't much rust in this 88 but I havent had it in the air or torn apart yet seeing how its still in the current owners back yard. I've read in a place or two that the 88s share a chassis with Impalas but its mostly been on wikipedia and im not sure how much I trust it. Any kind of advice or direction to some aftermarket stuff would be awesome! Can't wait to hear from y'all!
Thanks,
-Rusty

Chevrolet uses an X frame. Olds uses a perimeter frame. Little to nothing interchanges. Not even between Jetstar 88 and Dynamic/Super 88 of the same year, except sheetmetal, glass and interior.

The 1964 J88 has a lot of one-year-only, one-model-only parts, including the spindles, rear axle, frame, engine accessory brackets, and motor mounts. Nearly nothing from an Impala fits. The design of the bumpers guarantees that they rust out at the mounting brackets. No one makes repro parts for the Olds full size cars, there is no market. Good luck, but expect to have to fabricate anything missing or be searching for a long time.

Ok thank you Joe. I may look into something different then. It's a sweet car but I don't think I'm good enough at fab work to take on something like that and make it clean.
