1963 F85 cutlass
1963 F85 cutlass
How hard is it to swap out the tranny and engine on these cars?? it runs good, but tranny seems weird?? when u first take off, the shift seems to take its time?? any help would sure be appreciated. How much are these cars worth??
First you might check the throttle linkage. It has the rods down to the trans for throttle valve adjustment. You can lengthen or shorten the adjusting rod. Adjust and test, and adjust and test until it works to your liking.

The Rotohydramatic 5 used in the 1961-63 F-85 cars was not one of GM's better automatics. The weird shifting you describe is unfortunately common. The 215 V8 in these cars has a unique bellhousing bolt pattern. D&D Fabrications sells adapter kits to mate newer GM automatics, but these cars have a very small trans tunnel. A newer trans will require floorpan mods as well as a custom driveshaft. This can be done, but be aware of the fabrication involved.
