1954 Olds Super 88
1954 Olds Super 88
Just got my first Olds and I'm in love with it. Looking for ideas to lower it, I have skirts but need rubber and clamps. Also interested in any engine hop ups and duel exhaust ideas. Please share any ideas you got. Thanks!
Welcome aboard.
The rubber for the skirts is available from USA Parts Supply, Fusick or Steel Rubber Products, I'm not sure what you mean about the clamps, might be different than a 55. As far as hop up speed equipment you are mostly limited to old speed equipment Ebay can be your friend or contact Ross Racing they make aluminum heads and speed parts for these engines. It ain't a Chevy so be ready to pay big bucks if want to go fast in a short time.
If you want to split your exhaust ( doable but hard) you will need to cap off the cross over pipe and take the left hand exhaust pipe through the X frame then divert it around the vacuum tank(if you have power brakes) through the spring perch and out the back. Sounds easier than it is but many of us have done this. Get several bids on this job it takes a good muffler guy to do this , don't let them pass the exhaust pipe under the frame it's the easy way out but you will rub it on every speed bump you cross over.
As far as lowering the cheep way out is to use 50 or 60 series tires, you will rub on those same speed bumps as mentioned before but look cool. The other option is to bag it, I don't do that so someone will have to help you out there.
This isn't met to be a detailed explanation of all it takes to do these jobs but just a rough outline of what you will be getting in to as you alter your ride. You can figure what it will cost using a Chevy of the same year and just about triple it. Sad fact but very true, Oldsmobile's cost more to be unique but well worth it.....Lost in the fifties....Tedd

Welcome. It is always good to have another mid 50's Olds on here. Tedd has given you some very good advice as he always does. The 54 and 55 are very similar. The skirts on a 54 and 55 attach at the rear of the skirt with a 1/2 inch bolt. I assume your were supposed to use the lug wrench to remove the skirt. If you car has power steering, I would forget about putting duals on it. I would say it is very close to impossible. We need pictures as soon as possible.
Thanks for the advise guys. I'm finding stuff here and there. I found Ross Racing and the aluminum heads! Found dropped king pins through FatMan has anyone tried them? I just met a guy with a 54' 98 2dr with duel I have yet to look underneath. Looks tight around the power steering but I been told to run them down the same side. First thing I need to get is the factory assembly manual. Thanks guys!
