1 has to go Jetstar1 or Cutlass
1 has to go Jetstar1 or Cutlass
Hello all, first post and i'm lookin for opinions, advice or whatever.i have a 64 Jetstar1 and a 64 cutlass post and cant keep both, even tho i've had them for 25 years or so.Sounds crazy, but i cant stand it anymore.especially after finding this sight.time to sell one and put the other on the road.not sure what i wanna do.maybe some you guys can help me make up my mind.first the jetstar has rear end damage (gonna try to post pics with this post) no rear bumper and the trans is gone, otherwise, the 394 runs and the interior is in good shape.all the electrics work too.all original car (all 4 T-3's work) with no rust.all glass is good.trim is great.73 k original miles.thinkin i could do a trans adapter trick, battery, wheels, tires, etc. and drive it until i could fix the rear damage.(maybe a rear clip).right rear 1/4 @ least. Cutlass however is mostly deconstructed but,it's all there, and straight needs a wind screen, rad and exhaust typical stuff.now that its starting to cool down here in Phoenix i'll get in the garage and dig it out and post some pics.both arizona cars all their lives and quite solid.however, cutlass trunk pan and lower right rear corner are rusted (sat out for a year).floor pans still have original shiny paint...very nice.i also have extra cutlass parts for sale that i'll be posting soon..front and rear bumpers, dash, and few others.more on parts later.appreciate any and all comments...sorry so long winded and thanks
Welcome aboard!
Jetstar all the way. Especially since it's a coupe and in such great shape.. except for that rear. But a good body shop can pull and straighten it without too much trouble. I'm sure someone on the site will be able to steer you in the right direction for a rear bumper.
Sell the 64 Post to finance the Jetstar. I believe there are lots of guys looking for good solid 64 projects.

I say drive the cutlass and fix / restore the jetstar.
That interior is sure clean !! And as Allen stated lots of guys here looking for 64/65 cutlass parts. if you have a 64 bumpers in good shape lots looking for those especially if the reverse lights and front park lights are I. Tact

once again thanks for the input fellas, your opinions are duly noted. i will try to get pics of parts i have for sale, posted, and as i am a newbie,i am assuming i should post those under parts for sale, yes?
Go to any car gathering ... how many cutlasses do you see .. how many jetstars?
Damage and rust and burnt paint can all be fixed .... just a question of having the time, money and skills. But remember that the exterior of the car is for others to enjoy. Interiors ... that's for you. Which one do you most enjoy sitting in, driving in?

ankerclanker, sorry dont have a '65 bumper and the '64 bumper is different...may work i dont know.i didnt get pics of bumpers today but i did get some pics to post. cutlass is still kinda being held hostage in the garage, but i got a few anyway.having to use camera phone, dropbox, then resize, and all that.....i got a few pics of some parts too that i will post tonite
My opinion the cutlass needs less / easier work body wise, both cars will be needing many hrs finding used parts.
I think the cutlass would be easier in the long run but than again the interior on the other is perfect !!
Wish I had the cash to buy those bucket seats

I wouldnt spend a dime on that Jetstar or that Cutlass. Not when nice complete examples are out there for cheap. A lot cheaper than fixing either car. Guy wanted 11,000 for this Jetstar, try to fix the rear end and paint the above 64 for 11,000.

i should say (for anybody who may want it) that the cutlass,is only missing the rocker moldings, rear seat back, wind screen and exhaust...TK-65 i would be willing to sell both to buy another but, after trying to sell the jetstar with only ridiculous offers from potential buyers,i dont think thats going to happen.i mean really, would you be willing to part with the jstar for 650.00?

stray cat, we're all offering opinions. Filter through them and take what you want. For me if I didn't enjoy turning wrenches I'd sell everything including my tools and buy something that's completely done already. Tinkering is a hobby and they're toys to me. So that's my perspective, but others feel differently about it. John
yes John and i appreciate it.i can say that i did have some measure of success by saving the jetstar1 from the crusher as that's where it was headed when i got it.anyway,i'll try to keep the lumps small and keep on goin
I am with John, if I was to pay some one I would have to agree with tk65.
your 64 looks to be in better shape than my 65, but if you was to combine your two cars it's just about what I been working with.
Check out my buil"kids helping with project" to get a idea I bet the jetstar has at least 50hrs in rear end work and the cutlass to replace trunk pan and quarts patches is about 30hrs
Again I am with John I love learning and turning wrenches

This car was on San Francisco Craigslist for 2 grand. Solid as a rock. More desirable, bigger parts selection, and way cheaper to fix. Its a car that is savable, unlike the two cars you currently have.

TK, when was that 442 on San Fran list, I'm in that area and look everyday and have not seen it. Is it a current listing?
Gene
Here is another one that, I think< a great deal. I have not gone to look yet. I'm sure the price is workable.

I completely rebuilt the lower 6 inches of a '91 Sonoma ext cab. Hours and hours of beating steel computer chassis into floor pans (not only were replacements available, they were only $50 a side ... still did it by hand) and body mounts. Had no end of people telling me they could get me a replacement cab for a couple of hundred. What mattered was .. I wanted to do it myself, easy, hard .. made no difference. I think we're all somewhere in that ... if we were the sort to do things the easy way ... we wouldn't be playing on the dead branches of the GM tree. Some of us just play a little further out on the thin wood. Sometimes ... your branch snaps off under you. Only you can hear the branch you're on.

Guy says he is parting it out, no way that car needs to be parted. If I was in Cali it wouldve been mine by now.
Go save it Gene.

All in all, either you love the Jetstar and will restore it because you like it or you're intending to turn a profit. Because, the Jetstar is rare, I'll guarantee you that in 50 years, a mint Jetstar 1 will bring in more money at an auction than any Cutlass
