Mind you this is just a guess but it looks like Brian has a antique horse anchor (a bridal lead/rope with a weight attached) for sale for $29 US dollars picked up at his residence in Minnesota.
I betcha the price is negotiable, they ain't going for that much anymore.....Tedd
Makes sense. If you had a horse out on the frozen lake to haul blocks of ice, I guess you'd need something to tether the horse to keep him/her from wandering off.
On a similar note, I launched my future wife's grandfather's prized long ice chisel spear to the bottom of Lake Minnetonka one frigid day in January many years ago. He had invited me to go fishing with him since he couldn't find anyone to join him. First time I'd ever been ice fishing and he had me breaking up the ice in a couple of previously drilled, frozen-over ice holes. After wearing out my arms trying to punch thru the second hole, the ice finally succumbed and, before I knew it, the spear had left my tired arms and was sent rocketing to the bottom of the lake. Surprised he didn't kick me in the ice hole...but, he was cool about it (at least he acted like he was). That was 45 yrs ago and I'm sure it's still there.
The frog men found the cast iron weights , among many other artifacts on the bottom of lake minnetonka. They searched with hands digging in the mucky bottom.
WE mostly went spearing on little long lake just west of mound. Saw was used to open a 3foot by 4foot hole and then a decoy was dropped in. When the big Bad pike came they would get speared.
I found my ice saw , spear and redneck chisel locally. Now they put tether on chisel to keep it out of the drink
Yeah...this 4 ft long chisel I was using had a wrist strap, too. It snapped in the blink of an eye as I punched thru the ice. That chisel was a going away gift from his fellow workers at the foundry when he retired. Felt really bad about it...but, he never brought it up when we got together.
This all is what makes magnet fishing the new craze

The area under my dock is littered with 9/16 wrenches and ratchets with 9/16 sockets. I've gone to using my 20V Porter Cable impact gun because it's easier to find when I drop it in the water

My Grandfathers horse was ill for quite along time and was brought to the local vet where they finally got him in stable condition, so my grandfather being a farmer was outstanding in his field.
