Yea its solid still it held the aftermarket 3 core radiator pretty solid no movement so I thing I can get away with a patch job I sprayed it down with wd40 to help prevent it from rusting further BTW how do you guys like the facelift
Well Omegaman (I like that) I think you did very well. It looks like a pretty solid car that you can build on. Congrats and I look forward to Your build thread on this one. I believe you will get this one into the end zone.
Well I honed the cylinders on my 350 they look decent and because of budget issues I need to reuse the rings on my pistons they are plenty stiff/springy and I inspected the number 8 and they look good I need to check/clean pistons over the weekend as I install crank bearings and pistons. Time is now gotta go at it with what little tools I have to do this I hope it works but if it doesn't well engine building just won't be my thing
Bill, what does rings cost 40 bucks ? I think you should take the time and replace them.
If it doesn't work just tear it down see what happened and learn from it.
I have built newer motors, but I haven't done a olds and yes I go back and forth on doing it my self or paying to have it done.
So your ahead of me

I know I want to do the rings but I need a runner I can't seem to locate on I can just drop in and go around here nor can I get any flwxible payment plan people lol I just gotta do this and hope it will at least get me around town plus I've notice the longer I wait the more uneasy I get of doing it myself I need to get it over with
Heads up is a cake walk with stock parts.
Didn't you replace the crank&bearings ?
If so rings are a breeze to that
I understand a budget so no worries in my end would just hate to see you have excessive blow by and burn oil

Yes I will I just haven't put in yet because I don't have the right tools. Which brings me to my next point I have to trust they are cut right there's just no other way I ain't gonna push this engine when/if it runs so let's hope and pray this dumb@$$ can halfway build a runner. And I'm not to concerned of it burns a little oil as long as she runs is my concern it has to last at least 100k miles at the least

That's why you preassemble and plastic gage and measure to verify. post up your findings and some of the engine builders can help you if something stands out on what action you should take
Ik what I should do lol but my ADHD and impatience is kicking in and sitting around waiting to make money to buy plastigauge just isn't gonna happen. I by no means am trying so sound like a d@#$ but I need this done lol
I have plastigauge left over if you want it. I won't even charge you for the ride. If you want it, PM me your address and I'll try and get it out tomorrow. I have at least enough for the mains, not exactly sure how much more.
But if you replace current crank and bearings you are running a high risk if potential damage that could be prevented. It's truly your call but it could cost you in the end
Omegaman:
Do it once and do it right. You can get in a big hurry to get it running and take shortcuts. Then you get it together and it spins a bearing. Then where are you. Old cars will teach you patience.

Actually I think I will reuse rings a guy I'm friends with told me he rebuilt a Chevy 350 did head and can and nitrous and made 420 rwhp all on used rings so I'm gonna keep my rings lol
If you have honed the cylinders then the pistons are out. You only need a ridge reamer to cut the ridge at the top of the cylinder if there is one due to wear. If you are talking about the groove cleaner for the ring grooves on the pistons, you can break one of the old rings and use it to scrap the carbon buildup out of the groove.
Here's mine:
