Well it didn't start out as a major build but it has definately become one. I guess the pics will be a little out of order. Body is off the frame now frame is blasted and primed/painted. Here it is when I got it and as it sits today.

 

Took apart my core support to have it blasted and painted. Rear end is blasted and awaiting paint. Strange my lower rear control arms are not boxed, probably replaced at one time?

Thanks Retro. I'm going with Trophy Blue. I had a hard time not painting it the original Saffron.

Also been working on my dash while it was out, redyed it with SEM. It has a hairline crack over the glove box and a dimple above the guages, other than that it's not bad. I didn't want to spend the grand to reskin it.

I Also did the famous Rob Rally Pack upgrade, the rings are still not painted blue on the repro's. My lower dash was painted by Julie at ClassicCarPlastics.com it came out really nice, I'm just waiting on an H&H wood grain insert.

That's odd the LCAs are not boxed, do you have a spacer inside the arm to support the sway bar bolt and keep it from collapsing the arm ? If you didn't know They sell the piece to weld in and box unboxed arms ...

Retro, I didn't see a spacer, but I ordered the piece to weld in. MAW get rear springs and new shocks too.

 

Might as well get new bushings all around tops and bottoms. Perfect opportunity for the pinion snubber too as well as adding the frame stiffeners from the 4 speed cars ( I think they came out in very late 69 for 1970 cars) my
69 had them looked original to car but who knows could a been added early in the cars life.

My frame off resto actually started from putting a little air in the left rear tire....might as well check the right rear, might as well check, all the tires.... hmmm might as well rotate the tires.... etc etc lol. Just kidding but there is a lot of truth in the dreaded maw

 

The underbody looks good. What did you use for paint and how was it applied?

The paint comes from a buddy at PPG. I've got new body bushing/bolts ready to go in. I cleaned up and prepped my lower air deflector for the SEM bumper paint it worked good on my inner fenders.

Here is the shell back from paint, still needs wet sanding, cut and buff. Came out nice!

 

The body looks great! You are moving pretty fast. I am impressed the paint and body only took a month. You must know someone.

Thank you, it took a little longer they've had it since October. I just didn't put the pics up for a while. It is moving along pretty good though, still a lot of MAW's. I'm going to work on the A/C box and some other firewall stuff until they are ready to sand and buff.

Curious, your lower rear control arms not boxed but it has a sway bar attached. Did it have spacer collars in between the sides of the CA to prevent collapse when the bar was snugged down?

 

Thanks guys! Allan, they were not boxed and I didn't check for the collars. They are now boxed. My car had some wierd stuff on it probably from a PO or factory mishaps??? I have an auto w/console but when I got the car it had a #'s MT Carb a MT Steering Column, unboxed arms, go figure. It was a 2nd week of July 69 build so maybe one of the last ones built so QC was lax?

 

Ok, now you're just talking smack. QC?? What QC?. That didn't make an appearance until 1972 with the Sentinel Program. Probably because of issues like you just identified.

 

Too bad they didn't accidentally put a 455 in it...

 

I like the way you think! That and an M20 or M21?? The build looks great so far. Nice attention to the little details makes all the difference.

 

Painted my upper dash today and put new seals in my heater box.

 

Looks good, hopefully your seals went in better than mine did. The one that goes under the heater core wasn't even close to fitting, i had to "make it" fit.

 

Thanks Oldzzy, I had to make mine fit too, If would have had some black strip caulk on hand I would have used that instead.

 

I put some dynamat on the inner firewall, new insulation pad, heater box and gas pedal. I installed a few things on the outer firewall, almost ready to put the A/C box back on.

Added Dynamat and Dynaliner to the roof and under the dash. The Dynaliner is easy to work with going to do the floor pan next.

 

Is the Dynaliner pre cut or did you have to measure cut? Looks like your car will be nice and quiet when it's done, plus not going to suffer from heat coming through the floor or roof panels.

Kinda wondered what the inside of my car is going to look like all stripped like that. I'm guessing the interior panels were also painted before install?

Your pic also gives me some ideas about adding some sail panel lights (I know that was only for CS, but I like them) and where to run the wires, since I'm also adding the convenience light package. I'm also planning to change out the dome light to include the focused reading lights they had in later models.

Nice work, and thanks for the picture images. This is great reference material for lots of us who haven't yet pulled the trigger on this part of our projects.

 

I was wondering the same thing as Alan, I have my 69 W30 off the frame and starting like you and mine trophy blue, I was also wondering how heavy is the dynalite it sounds lite but is it. Your car looks outstanding and its a great job your going to have a perfect car when your finished and I am coming down there to see it when its done!! I am just a little north of you!

I replaced all the factory tar like deadener and insulation with dynamat and dynaliner. Only part I did not dynaliner was the firewall, I used dynamat and a repro firewall pad. I will also put a layer behind the rear seat. Dave, I will have a bunch of little small parts left over let me know what you might need. Thanks for all the compliments guys.

I just got two boxes of the 54 x 32 1/4 " Dynaliner. Each carton weighed two pounds. Lighter than I thought it would be. Going on the floors and inside the doors of my convertible in place of the tar floor stuff.

Tom, I ordered 3 boxes and I had enough to do the roof, under dash and the ear muffs with one box left over. I have not started on my floor yet, but I know I'll need at least one more box to complete it. Good luck it goes on really easy.

 

Did my trunk in Eastwood trunk spatter. I primed with dark gray Rustoleum automotive primer before spraying, it made the spatter go a long way only used 2 cans. I'll spray clear on it in 24 hours.
