Olds 350 vs Buick 350??

Whats the difference between olds 350 and Buick 350? I know Chevy 350 is allot different but not sure about the Buick to olds. I have a 74 omega and might be buying a Buick 350 that's done up so my next question is will the Buick motor bolt up to olds tranny? And basically fit in my car without changing mounts and such? Thanks

Yes the trans will work, and since the Apollo and the Omega is basically the same platform it should be an easy swap. I would assume you would need the Apollo frame and accessory brackets .

The only thing that is the same on a Buick 350 motor and an Oldsmobile 350 is the tranny bolt pattern. Pontiac and Cadillac also use it. Chevy was the oddball in this case.

You will need whatever motor mounts were used to mount Buick motors in Apollos.

We're not Buick guys.

The mounts will be different, but as stated above, you could get ones for an Apollo. The cross member should be drilled in the proper spots for the mounts. As far as the engines go, the Buick and Olds motors are pretty much nothing alike. They are both 90 degree V8's with the same bell housing bolt pattern and it pretty much stops there. Unlike the Olds, Buicks are not able to share items such as heads, valve covers, exhaust manifolds or timing chain covers between the big and small blocks.

You forgot the distributor cap.

Well, Olds distributor is in the back and Buick is in the front, so that should be a clue...

Once again, unlike Brand F or Brand M(opar), every GM division had it's own unique engine designs until the late 1970s. Completely different bore, stroke, castings, and architecture. Other than a few external items like distributor cap, alternator, and PS pump, NOTHING interchanges.

olds 350 shortest stroke of any GM 350 and Buick 350 longest stroke of any GM 350.
