64 F85 Gasser ..... possibly

I didnt want to hijack Red's build thread. Brought home a perfect gasser candidate today.

It will be a while til i can work on it. The Hurst must get done first. Plans as of now are straight axle, four speed, fender well headers and dual quads. Its for show and not so much go. We have a jig for building our race cars and the plan is to build the front end and axle from scratch. With race season in full swing and the Hurst first in line its likely a winter project.

This car was in the middle of nowhere 3 hours from my house. Just over 60k miles. Took it for a test drive before i bought it. Body is solid but surface rusted. Bumpers have holes. Trunk is good. Driver side floor has a hole in it. Frame is good. Interior pretty torn and faded. 330 w/auto.

no, i saw it online and i was trying to convince my buddy to buy it but he's half stupid, I would have loved to pick it up because i have a 64 black four door and a spare 330 in the garage would have been nice to have both, I was just curious if it was the same car

oh and I did a little research on the name gasser.
from what I found our cars would probably be called A/FX cars.
because of year, unless we move the wheel base then it is an altered.
or Street Freak, exaggerated ,jacked up, over modified. (mine)

I only brought this up b/c someone got all over someones case about correct name
over on the H.A.M.B. (wooopty friggging dooooo)
kindda like the Rat Rod /Traditional Hot Rod thing.

I still call it gasser. most get that image in there head when the hear it.

butcha, i am happy with what i paid for it - not what he was asking of course im considering DA'ing down, semi black and put some plates on it until i am full into the build.

red, i have no choice on waiting. made the deal with the wife and i have to stick to it. now that i have it , i am a little motivated to get the hurst done. i am not so sure mine will be done right. i have no experience with straight axles.

yea, i know the guys on hamb can get a little worked up. if the car ran in a gas class, i call it a gasser. and you are right, if you say gasser to someone they know what that means. if you say altered wheel base factory experimental most wouldnt get it.

looks like we have to have ourselves a little exhibition match race someday

I KNEW it was over at the HAMB when I got to about "someone got all over...". You are right, those guys can be kind of **** sometimes but I still like reading many of the threads over there.

edit: Don't EVEN bring up the phrase Rat Rod in a serious conversation over there.

well I'M glad you saved the coupe from someone buying it and throwing 24" wheels on it.. I live in Rhode Island right on the providence border and the first weekend i took mine out after the motor was done a local "homie" at the gas station told me my car was phat and all I needed was 22"s and i would be all set .. I laughed for a good ten minutes .. good luck with it and keep me posted with the build
