Thumbs up The Vista is Blue!

The blue Vista is really blue now.

I went and checked out her new paint today, it's beauteous.
My bodywork looks good, straight as an arrow...if I must say so myself.
I thought she would be waving hello when I walked in.
If the paint doesn't fall off I'm golden.

Just needs to be cut and buffed and she's mine again.
Now for the fun part.
I have to get my mink coveralls ready, don't want any scratches.
It's either those or buck neckid, nothing would come between me and my Vista Cruiser.

The woodgrain is next, no fake woodgrain hater comments please.
If it ain't got wood it ain't no good.

Thanks guys.

"The Most Prettiest One of All" would be a good name.

The painter's going to cut and buff her Monday.
I better ask him how to take care of the finish, he'll strangle me if I mess it up.
Nice to have a guy that knows what he's doing and more picky than you are work on your car.

Sandy ain't getting within 20 feet of it, if I turn my back on her for one minute half the bolts under the hood will come up missing.

Hey Erik, I actually beat you to paint, son of a gun.

Trouble maker????

The color is what it was originally, 1971 code 24 Nordic Blue Poly.
It's base/ clear now, very slight metallic like original.
I can't wait until it's home, spent three hours stripping paint off a plaster lawn ornament cat so I could paint it today.
Ever see a Nordic Blue cat???

Wasn't sure if that was original paint or not. I really like the color, it's not Astro Blue but it will do.

You'll have to post a pic of the cat...

They call it body work not body fun for a reason.
It's dirty, dusty, frustrating, time consuming and takes patience.
But when done is very rewarding.

Excellent job Blue

Isn't she just beautiful!!!!!!! So pretty and shiny! I'm so happy for you! You are gonna win a lot of trophies with her, no doubt! Not the prettiest one of all though, you shi*!!

What do you mean, half the bolts under the hood will come up missing...... hell, I planned on taking them all, LOL! You'll have to tell me what the painter tells you to use on her finish.

Most excellent job!

My ultimate master plan.

Thanks again everybody.
I still can't believe it.

There are a few square feet of glass to mask on those cars?
I hate dirty glass, no problem in my convertible to keep the windshield and vent windows clean, Vista drives me nuts. Doing much better since I got my Ultimate Cloth, no streaks.

He had to mask all the openings when he pulled the doors and tailgate to do the jambs, At least I hope he did?
I masked off the whole interior except the dash just to be safe, my trim shop duplicated seat and cargo area side covers cost as much as the paint job, no joke.
The seats and paint job individually cost more than the car.

My wife won't let me paint her cat Nordic Blue.
I think it's going to be an Olds 350 gold with woodgrain sides cat now.

Nice job, Blue! I totally agree w/the masking of the windows; they grow from beginning to end! By the way, what is the Ultimate Cloth? Think I need to get one (or two) of those for the Silver Bullet and the Custom Cruiser!

I picked the car up this afternoon.

I can't believe how good it looks.
I may actually know what I'm doing, bodyworkwise anyway.
They cut and buffed it and I thought there would still be some orange peel but it's like glass, the paint looks better than my goat.

Hey Erik! It's Spies Hecker.
The materials only cost 860 bucks so it may be the cheap stuff.
The spare tire lump is gloss black, think it should have been a semi-gloss but I'm not complaining.

Got the woodgrain vinyl yesterday.
Spent a hundred bucks at Fusick's too, I thought I had everything to finish it?

Tail lights are the junk spares, painted ones are in the back with rest of the painted off the car parts. I hate whin they fill the gap between the housings and the body with sealer and paint them on the car, same with eyebrow moldings.

I never had any doubt the car would be wavy gravy! Looks spectacular! Spies Hecker.....don't tease me Allan!

You now own the nicest Vista Cruiser in existence! The bar has been raised! Don't hold out on the woodgrain, I expect a whole thread on that with how-to and plenty of pics and tips! Oh, if you are happy with it, I will need the info on that!

Bluetiful??

She is so bluetiful... to me.

Thanks for the kind remarks, I'm humbled.

Hey Erik, It is das Spies-Hecker, if my car ever talks to me it will have a German accent.
Ken the painter was writing down the paint type and couldn't remember how to spell "Spies". I told him to look at the rug we were standing on with Spies-Hecker in big letters on it.
I bet your house is wall to wall carpeted with those babies Erik, the garage at the least.
What do you have to do to get one of those things?

I hate to cover the bottom up with woodgrain.
The strip above the molding on the rocker panel under the doors is painted brown to match the woodgrain like original so I'm sort of locked in now, as if I wouldn't have woodgrain anyway.
There's no point in even having the car without fake wood sides and a roof rack.
I'm not sure if I should put the curb feelers back on though??

Hmmm... It seems to be missing a few parts, but aside from that it looks great!
I think you should scrap the idea of the vinyl woodgrain and go to home creepo and get REAL wood paneling to put on the sides.
That way when the next guy at a traffic light asks you what kind of wood it is, you CAN say it is walnut and not adhesive.
