I've got 15 crisp $20 bills that I'd give you for this.

I'd say tool around town in it while you can. If you get pulled over, you get pulled over. When the time comes, use it as a parts car for your dad's car. Get that one on the road and driving and you'll be super happy.

Thats the plan! I called up the DMV and I've been doing some digging and I may actually be able to register the white car a lot sooner than I thought. All our insurance/licenses/residence/other cars all that paperwork is for NC so I can't get NY plates for the car until we transfer it all over to NY (IE when we sell the NC house) BUT my dad, being the last registered owner can go to the DMV, with his NC license, and request a replacement title (or transferable reg) and we can get that, take it to NC, and get plates for the white car. With that said, the gold car may turn into a parts car real soon, especially since our lease is up in a few months at the rental house and we're not real sure where we're gonna end up, and they might deal with me having the gold car

I didn't end up getting it plated because my father bought a 96 Accord in NC, which took up the last space on our insurance policy, so we couldn't put the gold car on our policy, and I ended up driving the Accord all the way to NY. The gold car may be registered, or if I get paperwork for the white car in time, and/or buy a baja beetle I'm looking at, one of those two will be registered instead and the car will become a parts car, much to the relief of half the people on here

Looks like there is still many good parts on her, hopefully you can find another car to use the parts on. Where in NY are you located?

Other than the shell and 1 fender, shes almost mint . I actually do have another car, my father gave it to me. 1969 Olds Cutlass S, same exact car as this one but with a different paint scheme, and in much better shape. I bought this gold car originally as a parts car but it turned out to be really nice and I don't want to strip and scrap it.

I'm in Saugerties NY, near Kingston. 100 miles or so north of the city, near the catskill mountains

Why you think driving it, and why ADULTS in this thread think its a great idea is beyond me.

This is a nowhere close to being a nice car.

Is not "advice". He's not sharing something constructive here, or trying to contribute to the thread, or even saying something along the lines of "be careful", the sole purpose of that comment was to insult and talk down to me, and anyone who agrees with what I'm doing. He made a blind, uneducated narrow sighted insult at me and what I'm doing, acting like I'm sub-human for doing what I'm doing. If anything, your comment would be much better directed at him then me. Food for thought.

The problem I see here is anyone that disagrees with you is condescending. You need to show respect to all opinions even the ones you don't agree with. There is no reason to use inappropriate language towards others because they say something you don't want to hear. To be honest it does not belong on the road.

Can people atleast not talk to me like I'm a 13 year old? Seriously guys, I don't need people on a car forum to teach me right from wrong. I must be doing something right to make it to 19. Jesus.

If you think my "profanity" is bad you shoulda seen the PM he sent me

Everyone was your age at one time, I for one was lucky enough to live through it. My yearbook prophecy under my HS picture was "Most likely to wind up dead or in jail" Do you honestly think your the first to try some of the crap your doing? Take it from those of us who have and learn from our mistakes instead of trying to live through your own.

People are treated by the way the act.

I'm gonna pound my head into a wall trying to explain to half of you how this car isn't as unsafe as everyone makes it out to be just by looking at it, so I'm not gonna bother. If you guys actually read my first recent reply/update to this thread you'd see that I didn't end up getting it registered anyway because my dad bought another car and filled that space in our insurance policy. I still stand by my statement that its plenty road safe, and it is, but I've found a way to get paperwork for my other car, the weathers getting warmer, and we may be moving. That means the car will be stripped of its good parts (literally everything except the driver-rear quarter) and then the body shell will be scrapped. For *&^ sake, even the trunk floor. window ledge (except bottom driver corner) and the entire trunk lip (except driver side) are perfectly intact. any damage is topside cosmetic, the car is plenty roadworthy. Of course this post won't actually affect anyones opinions cause everyone likes to sit around with their fingers in their ears telling me I'm wrong without even seeing the car, but ya know, its a car forum, where the old guys are always right and I'm wrong because I'm young.

If it makes you feel better, I've seen WAAAAAAY WORSE on the road down here in Virginia and even more that were worse when I lived in Florida.

You're old enough to make your own decisions. You said this was a parts car and a temp daily driver until it got warmer (if I recall right).

Exactly. Its almost march, hoping it'll warm up within a month or so. I didn't end up getting the car registered, and now that I'll be registering my white 69, the car will return to being a parts car. Either way, I found a nice VW Baja Bug I'm planning on picking up this weekend so I'll be driving that rather than the crushed car.

perhaps it's you looking the wrong way....

When folks give advice for the most part it is like Eric said we have been there done that, when someone joins a car forum it is to share their experiences doing a common thing we all love, so we all get involved in each others project,

So we read and get involved in your first build thread, then we are excited for you because you got a killer deal on a parts car and it is going to make your dream come true cause we are sharing the experience

Then you start another thread about putting this puppy on the road? Regardless safe or unsafe is that the best thing to happen? We all look at what you have to work with,

Don't need the motor and tranny great someone says 500 clams you got your interior for free plus 300

Don't need the door great sell it another ka Ching,' more into dads muscle car, like you said everything has value we are seeing you score big time and we see another project moving along want to find a nice body and swap over fine but then your dividing your resources

That is probably the message 99 % of us want to convey,

As for profanity well there is a time and a place for everything the other guy didn't hang it all out for others to see , and read and that was the right thing to do

As for your latest decision it is a smart one in my opinion unless you found an elcamino hit in the nose

As for making 19 what's the big deal? I have done that twice almost 3 times now
It does get better deep breaths.

I have about $500 in the car counting transport, I had to drive all the way to jersey and U-Haul wouldn't rent me a trailer for a 1/2 ton to tow that car so I had to rent a truck too. I don't particularily -need- most of the parts on this car right now for the other car. So I figured why not plate it for a few months, cruise around, and have some laughs before it finally gets stripped and sent to the crusher. Nothing wrong with that? Weather gets warmer, I strip it and scrap it, the parts go into my "spares" stock pile and I plate the white car. I thought that would be something most of the guys on this forum could appreciate and have a laugh at. I get it about the profanity thing, but before everyone jumps on me about attacking Mr. Nice Guy you should really see what he actually sent me in a PM. He'd be putting a few bucks in the swear jar if you know what I mean

Thats probably because according to the "warning" message I got, they "editied" or more apparently, deleted that reply I made.

Wow, will I be beheaded on the north tower if I say something negative towards the queen? Thought we were in America. Okay.

Hey man I get it about the swearing , rise above it you know the whole two wrongs don't make a right. Thing.

I also get what you were thinking about the car, but what happens when your screwing around with it burn outs dix of hazards stuff and you hurt the motor, tranny, rear etc, and now your out cash, or god forbid you hurt yourself or worse someone else but those are choices everyone makes for themselves I am sure you think and thought of those things but when it is thrown out there so cavalier we kinda think really? Holy sh%t maybe he is serious and if you had a friend tat said to you wouldn't you at least offer your opinion and try to show your side?

A thing I learned a long time ago is everything and everyone has value, but you can't carry everything or everyone so you need to assess what has the most value to you, and you have to choose and leave the rest behind, hopefully we get it right, or we realize we are humping the wrong crap, and need to go to plan b or c or d,

The only way to make the best choices is to really take the time to look at all your available choices folks here are just sharing their experiences from their choices noone expects you to do what they say, but if someone took the time to offer advice it would be prudent to consider it, if it makes sense and you got room in your pack take it, if it doesn't make sense then leave it behind, but realize someone offered it right or wrong to try and help you. As for folks agreeing with bad ideas folks shout jump at people on a ledge too, the guy telling you to get the f inside isn't being condescending he is trying to help

OK nuff said peace out.
