is the turbo 400 tranny a 4 speed? if so, if I put that on my 350 rocket could I use a lower gear for more low end torque but still be better on the highway because of the 4th gear? also, those are not really expensive are they?

Th400 is 3 spd hd unit. Th400 will cost cheaper to rebuild for hp over a th350 in relatively stock form.

 

You maybe be thinking of a 4L80 which is a 4 speed version of a TH400 to a degree. They are not cheap but are readily available. I know the 4L80E needs electronics to work.
