1965 Club Coupe 442

So I picked up this car at the OCA Nationals in ‘22.
I have always wanted one since I saw Jasen Ramsey restore his.
So while my F85 Club Coupe is off for body work and paint, I thought I would start this project.

It won’t be a full restore(the F85 has been close to 4 years and lotsa $)…so I’d like to enjoy this one with a little less work.
It WILL get a full restore one day but for now I think it’s pretty damn cool just the way it is.

Thank you Eric Pope for entrusting it to me and dragging it all the way from Colorado.

P

After Dragging it home from Tennessee, I decided to buff up the paint, I think this one will be cool just the way it is.

And today, I started the mechanical restore.
Im planning on restoring the engine bay, the interior, the frame will get a light clean up and the rear will be gone through,
I spent the day bagging and tagging everything from the firewall forward.

This is just one of 109 Dearborn equipped 3 speed Club Coupes, so that will be rebuilt as well.

😉 Thank you guys.
First order is to tear down the front end, send a bunch of stuff off to get powder coated semi gloss and then start cleaning up the frame.
I HATE removing coil springs with no engine.

Very nice.

I can hardly wait to see it after the LS swap!

Seriously, looks like you're definitely giving it some well-deserved love.

BangScreech…that’s a good one. I’ll be sticking to a boring old 400. Although there might be something a little special on top. 😉

Bernard… It’s fairly well optioned for a lowly club coupe. It has a deluxe interior and even a radio! After that…it’s pretty Bare bones. No reverse lights, base 3 speed, no wheel covers. I love the strippers.

Jim! Hey man, hope to see you soon buddy.

The MAW’s have gotten many of us. This car is definitely deserving of a nice restoration.

Thanks guys! It will be tempting to keep going on this car as IVE WANTED ONE FOREVER.
But I’ll keep to my plan for now.

1arunem, I sent you a message about the paperwork.

Tore down one side of the spindle and control arm. Every bolt fought me tooth and nail. I THOUGHT A Colorado car would come apart fairly easy.

The radiator support has some issues, but is still a great starting piece.
Rust under the battery and the bent up lower bracket was sheared off and only held on by the center support.

An afternoon tornado warning cleared me out of the garage early, hopefully I’ll stitch it all back together this week.

Eddie, great work your knocking it out. Brings back memories of my 64 F-85 build-target red "post car" too.

Little bit more disassembly. Cataloguing all the parts carefully as this is a Freemont car, so proving it’s a legit 442 is important.
Shim marks for rear stabilizer, HD police/442 spring codes and a nice 3.55 posi rear.

Damn Freemont cars stapling in the rubber engine shields. that was another couple hours cleaning up that mess.
I’ll be using the Lansing clips to put it back together. And some inner fender clean up.

i may be starting to get ok at welding finally.

The "O" and the D-C on the dataplate says it was originally a blue/white two tone car.
It would look great restored.
GLWS!
