My 67 442 project
lookiong good! do yourself a favor:
take LOTS of reference pictures, and zip lock baggie & label every bunch of fastners as you remove stuff.
from experience i can tell you that you'll have less headaches in reassembly.

Yup, been bagging and tagging. Wife was wondering what has happened to all the ziplock bags. Got myself an Assembly Manual and Service Manual years ago when I bought my other car, will depend on those also. I guess worse case I can look at the other car as reference. I do have lots of pictures also. Comes apart easy and it's cheap, going back together, not so cheap.
Great looking project! Love that dual quad setup!
Hmmm...I hope that between this thread and the one by squirell on his 67 convertible will motivate me to get back to work on my car again. Haven't touched it since July! Shame on me!
Keep the pics coming!

That Dual Quad setup I bought back in 1979. I used it very little, maybe 3 hours. I attached some 1983 era pics of me installing it in my 66 ragtop that I used to have. Being in the Navy back then, I was never home to enjoy it. That setup will be going on the 455 I have and will be transplanted in the project car. Yes, 30 years later I finally get to use it! The original engine from the project car will be put away. The engine from the 66, which I still have, will go into my other car sometime. I have a set of "B" heads to make it more correct. I'm just wondering if the "A" heads I have will work on the 455.
My friend has a Mig welder that I hope to borrow when I repair the floor pan. I think that's all the welding I have to do. I'm pleased about the condition of the body.
I got a three day weekend coming up, thanks to the government, I hope to get the engine pulled and maybe the rear end.

67Olds442x2,
It was kinda a flashback lloking at this thread. I saw your profile pic (the one with both cars in the garage). 3yrs ago I picked up a 67 442 that was Saffron Yellow, I have done a full restoration on it and have re-0painted it to Midnight Blue!
You garage looks like my before and after photos.. Good luck, and yes....... tag it, tag it, and tag it again. Take as many pictures as you can. I'm just finishing mine and still trying to figire out where all those damn vacuum lines on the carb go to!

alwayssomething,
The assembly manual shows where the vacuum lines go. I can make a PDF of the routing if you need it. I'm depending greatly on the assembly manual and service manual when it comes time for reassembly. I've taken pictures but maybe not enough. I can always look at the other car also.

Here's the engine diagrams. Look at the charts, one chart auto and one manual transmission (Pg1,Pg4). Match your engine, transmission type and options, A.I.R. system or cruise control (which I think came on the 2bbl turnpike cruiser only for 442 anyways) to a code and find the diagram for the code, example "OH". I had highlighted my info so it may not be the same as yours. Let me know if you need more.
I attached .jpg's , PDF too large.
Send a PM with your e-mail and I can send the PDF file.

Nothing exciting to add, just a few disassembly pics. We're due about a foot or so of snow again so spending time in the garage. Took doors off and steering column. Getting cramped in the garage, can't back other car out because off weather. Brand new Camaro has to sit outside.
I don't think I really described my plans at all, so here it goes. Since I've taken it apart this far and the body mounts need to be changed, I need to separate the body from the frame. I've seen other posts on "Frame off" and it seems that the frame or car is still supported by the wheels, the body is lifted and the frame is rolled out from underneath. I think I might be doing this bass akwards. I'm at a point where I could possibly put things back together so as to install the tires again but I don't want to do that if at all possible.
I'd like to continue removing the rear end, the gas tank, trunk lid, bumper, and up front, the rest of the engine/trans and front suspension. What i'll be left with is the body and basically a bare frame supported with jack stands (4). Not sure if this has been done like this before but I'm going to try to lift the body enough to be able to replace the mounts. I have a floor jack and could borrow a cherry picker if needed. Is this enough or do I need more jacks? I assume you lift the front enough to put the 4x4 between the body and frame, do the same at the rear, then little by little raise each end while supporting the sides of the 4x4's with the stands. The body would be supported with 4x4's sitting on more jack stands. Since I have very limited garage space I'd like to be able to sand blast the frame and paint it before mounting the body again. To do this, I have to get the frame outside and it's sitting on jack stands, no wheels. I'm going to try to rig up something with wheels that I could lower the frame onto then wheel it outside. Does this sound like a plan that may work?
I only have maybe a foot and a half on the left side of the car. Funny, when I removed the fenders, I couldn't open the drivers door enough to get at the bolts. I looked at the drywall and thought I could always patch it, so I cut a hole in it to get the door to open wide enough. Anyway, if this works I'll have to pass on the good news. It would be nice to assemble everything back on the frame with the body off then mount the body, but I won't be able to do that. Guess i could move the other car outside and put the frame in the other side of the garage. I'll think about that. Thanks for reading.

Just my 2 cents but I would get a set of rims and tires from a junkyard, put them on the rolling chassis, raise & support the body, roll out the chassis, support frame and remove your rear axle and all the other parts you're looking to restore/ replace. I did that on my 67 Holiday coupe about 15 years ago. The rolling chassis rebuild was as far as I got and I still have the car in parts every where. Maybe someday I'll fix that one too but gotta finish the sports coupe first.
Keep the updates coming and pictures! Awesome looking condition that car is in.

67 Cutlass,
Thanks for the reply. Your 2 cents actually makes a lot of sense. I would just need to re-install the right rear coil spring, hook up the shock then I could put a tire back on. The front spindles are still on, all I need is to install the drums, brakes not required, and put those tires on. I really wasn't sure how safe it would be removing the body while the frame is supported by jack stands alone. I definitely need to get a set of smaller rear tires to do this, the fronts are fine, the rear tires fill up the whole wheel well area. I'll just have to plan accordingly so my good car doesn't sit outside during any bad weather while the chassis takes up it's parking space :-(
I'm pleased with the condition of the car. I got it off E-Bay and it was only 2 1/2 hours away. I think it spent most of it's life in PA. That dual quad setup will be attached to my 455 and implanted into the car. Can't wait to start shifting gears :-)

Removed back window and headliner. Actually found dead mice between the headliner and roof, they had a nest there. Another nest was found in the front frame earlier. Now I know what that awful smell was in the car when I got it.
Rear window frame looks pretty good, one small hole to repair.
Took advice and put wheels back on to have a rolling chassis. Moved parts to the basement to give me some room, darn doors are heavy or maybe I'm just getting old. Till next time.

Progress has been slow. I can see this lasting more than a few years, I decided to start this project the same year my Daughter will start college pursuing a medical degree. I guess you call this bad timing. Anyway I've removed everything from the back end. Also removed the body trim and I'm pleased with the condition of the body. Bought some new shop equipment and now I have less room to work. I put the extra large tires on my other car for the heck of it and they fit pretty well. The car has a 2 inch spacer under the coil spring which helps. I'll post updates when the body is separated from the frame.
