Green Turd Arrived, 72 442

Ok, this isnt mine but a project purchased by my brother. He isnt a member here but I thought I would share the progress. The car is a factory 350, 4spd in Radiant green. The plan is to build a warmed over 455, keep the muncie and swap in a 430 Posi. He already had a parts car Cutlass in the yard which is going to be needed for sure. Disassembly has begun. One fender is for sure gone and it does need a trunk floor pan. Here are a few pictures and of course I will be involved with the build. At first the color was...yuck but now its growing on us and its kinda scarce on the 442. This car has made the "for sale" circuit on the web and at 3 G's I think it was kinda fair. 342 posi, original non console shifter, factory AM/FM, remote sport mirrors, original wheels, Rally gauges, rer sway bar and boxed lower arms, buckets. Oh, its even uglier in person! lol

I like the color, please consider keeping the 350, maybe better heads and a cam, I love a 350 4 speed car.

The 350 will be kept in tact just not in the engine bay, my brother already has a 72 3spd stick 350 442 .

Congrats on purchase.

What diff uses a 4.30 gear set and why change out a perfectly good 3.42 Posi?

Yeesh. Reminds me of my grandfather's emerald green (in and out) '74 F_rd.

I'm sure you guys will have it polished to perfection in a matter of weeks.

He picked up a rear out of a Buick GS and a factory gear is 430. It is supposed to be a HD rear special to the Buick but is actually based on the 10 bolt cover Pontiac rear. His plan is to make some runs at the strip and limited street usage. The 342 will be left intact just swapped out.

I see it had a bit of filler there. Hope there isn't a bunch more around the car.

She is going to need alot of love. But who doesn't want a factory 4speed car period? I'm slowly planning the manual swap for the 71.

No pictures yet but disassembly has begun. The front end is off. Driver's fender looks fixable while the RT side is toast. Rad support pretty bad. Radiator looks to be a 2 row. We removed back glass to find a few rot holes which is why the trunk floor is shot. The floors appear to be good as well as most of the interior. The headliner is shot and rear package tray is trash. The dash is good as well as back seat and interior trim panels. The gas tank had varnished and is not going to be reused. Most of what is needed will come from the parts car. A lucky find was the broadcast card under the carpet. It is pretty readable. This is a Lansing car with black bucket interior.

Seq 242 MO 11 Day 30 Style 33687 A01 Trim 947 U58 W29

Then there was a small slip of paper stamped W 390 307291 A01 C60 (??) (car does not have AC) M31 M31 N40 P01 and the rest was missing.

Car is factory stick on the floor but possibly a 3 speed? There is a Muncie 4speed and factory 4speed non console shifter with the car.

If you look at the mechanicals and underside not much has changed. Body panels, trim and bumpers and interior yes. I do have a little experience with some un-named white 72 vert!

Here are a few pictures of the broadcast card found under the carpet.

Here are some pictures. Started repairing some rot. I would say this is typical and could be worse, no surprises, just work.

I believe the floors are solid enough to be saved with some patching. We are hoping to score a trunk pan at the upcoming swaps and it seems all GM A bodies used the same trunk floor pan from 70-72.

You going to media blast the interior to get rid of the rust? The frame looks pretty decent.

Looks like someone recently installed a new fuel pump, and that solenoid on the carb looks to be the one for an AC car even though this is not AC. Is the carb a 7042250?

Not sure how the rust will be handled inside. Ya the guys we bought the car from had it running off a bottle and prob put the fuel pump on there. Not sure about that carb. We may try the 350 till the 455 gets done. As the project get further along it will need to be able to move in and out of the garage...

Deja vu ;-)

Deja = already
vu = past tense of the verb "voir", to see.

Looks like a fun project

Maniac - we made need a wheel barrow instead of the bucket-cart for the spring swaps! Nice work, you could do this with your eyes closed right about now!

For sure, hope we find some stuff we need now, and not stuff we just may need later!
