I just love the old school looks with the "square shouldered" tires [ pie crust slicks!! oh yeah! ] and "normal sized" rims... I'm just not a fan of anything bigger than traditional 15's on the old cars... and I don't mind old cars "raised" a bit all round or even a straight axle for that matter, just to be different.. I guess my age is showing.. keep the pix coming! Cheers, Mike

Its all about the theme of the build. This car looks great with the tire wheel combo but a car laying on the ground with big wheels can look great too.

Old school gasser type builds and straight axle cars are really in right now.

You are correct thats why they make so many differant parts and wheels because we all like differant things ,The right combo on any of them can look really bitchen! If things keep going the way they are we will no longer be able to find 14" tires and rims its already tough to do the mickeys are the only 14"in a 50 series you can buy that kind of sucks. They are all pushing the big rim sizes which look great too but I almost feel they are kind of shoven them down our throats.

You are right about the tire sizing choices going away... I realize you can still buy what is now considered "odd sizes", but try to find things locally used, in good shape.. As I don't have the bucks to buy new, I had to do a bit of calling and digging around to try and find what I was looking for.. Everyplace I called said they had nothing.. some begrudgingly groaned they "might be able to order them in.." [like 160 bucks each... and "coopers" no less..**LOL**] The last guy said ".. you must be one of them old guys..." when I asked for a pair of 275/60 15's... He had nothing "that big"... he laughed about 255/60 and even 235/60's.... ".. good luck.." he said.

Now that the trend is for the larger rims, and "slamming it"... the "small stuff" is being phased out. I'm sure Coker tire or the other "boutique" manufacturers will keep making them, but watch the prices SOAR to the moon.

I had a hell of a time even finding steel rims in good shape. The price of those are going WAY up too.. The country junkyard wanted 35 BUCKS EACH!! The yard guy mumbled "..everyone wants those now.." God.. the rims I tossed out over the years. [Luckily, I was fortunate enough to find steel in the giant mid-state yard.]

Kinda makes me wish I had my own huge building to keep all my "junk" in... I'll bet one might be able to retire someday selling all that "old crap" [as my wife calls it..]

Cheers, Mike

The only place I found that has the 14's and 15's is Summit racing mickey tompsons the 50's are $240 ea and the 70's are $139 ea I got lucky and scored the 50's off a guy for $125 pair wished he had more. They got us by the short hairs but those new rim sizes arent cheap eather

Damn Tony that thing keeps looking better and better. Keep up the great work. I'm one for the smaller rims myself and have thought about getting some 14" rims and tires to run my 3 spoke spinners from time to time but trying to find rims and tires at a low price is getting hard.

Thanks Rob
interior should be done next week rear seats and door panels. have you done anything with your motor yet? Hope to see mine soon and maybe drive it. The 14" tires are about the same price as the bigger ones its just hard to find them in the wider sizes or radials. maybe if enough people ask for them they may make them again. Only Summit carries the mickeys Im going to hear dollar signs when I spin them

I haven't had a change to get my motor swapped yet. It's almost ready to come out but between work and the tranny in my sons car going out it's been going slow. Hopefully in the next couple weeks I can get moving on it again. Glad to hear about your interior, I've been trying to get mine redone back to original for years.

Tony, I love the look of the car...with one exception. Why the mud flaps? I mean...they are like 4" wide and you've got 11" wide tires...is it a joke? If so, it's funny but that car could look so mean except that the flaps look retarded behind such big tires.

The mud flaps help keep the lower rear clean Thats what most cars had on them in the years we built them like that. Its my car and I am doing it old school if you think it looks retarded dont do yours that way. I have a son your age and he probley wouldnt do it eather someday someone will ask you why you did your car that way. Have fun with it!

The 455 is running decent. It is a far cry from what I had but it will work as a good cruiser.
