Dynamic Custom

Hello,
It has been a while since I have been here, but since my project as started to ramp back up I though I'd become more involved.

My project is a 1962 Dynamic 88 dr. HT. Thankfully I know a lot of the history of it. It was last registered in 1977 and then put away in a barn. It was then taken back out in 1990 and restored, engine rebuilt, body and paint. It was then driven from Columbus Ohio to south Dakota and parked in a field until I rescued it a couple of years ago. I'm kind of a hot rodder so plans have gone the route of customizing.

Pictures are worth a thousand works so here we go.

How I found it:

side.jpg

Had it media blasted and primed, then had to replace rockers and bottoms of the rear quarters:

Engine was in great shape internally, tune up and oil change and it purred like a kitten with no smoke. I cleaned it up, painted it, put a 4brl intake and carb on it, and found some finned offenhauser valve covers for it.

Got rid of the Hydromatic and replaced it with a Beefed up 200R4, Mated them together with a transmission adapter from Bendentson’s. I had to make a new trans tunnel to acomidate it:

Paint and body: Shaved door handles and most of the emblems. Primed and painted. Color is Medium Spiral Grey Metallic a C5 corvette color. Tones of pearl and metallic:

As a fellow 62 Dynamic 88 owner, I have to admire both your devotion and work. I am more into preserving the original, but the ability to accommodate different strokes is what makes this hobby so great.

You are going to have a mighty fine machine! What are your plans with respect to the interior?

It needs cat eyes on the headlights, like mine have.

Thumbs up

Love the sheetmetal skills! It's a lost art today. If it isn't reproduced, people give up, and figure it's junk. Keep the pics and progress coming!

Nice looking find, and what you're planning and doing looks nice as well.

But why would someone restore a car, including rebuild the engine, fix the body, and repaint it...and the park it in a field to, apparently, just rot away again?

Small Update: Got the front Air Ride Shockwaves in. I had to build some brackets to attach them to the lower a-arm. She'll be low.
Sorry about the crappy cell phone photos.

Updates:
Got the suspension blown apart front and rear, blasted and painted, Had some issues there that I won't get into. Just ordered up upper A-arm bushings which will be the last of the suspension rubber I'll need. Rear Axle is out and blown apart and housing is ready to go to the blaster. After that I need to paint the front half of the frame and we are already to put it all back together again.

Just got started on installing aftermarket power windows. Since I shaved my door handles I need to have a way to get into my 88. Usually Door poppers and solinoids are put in for this, but I've talked with some friends that have done this and they wish they would have just went with power window via keyfob. Just roll em down and reach in. This unit utilizes all the stock internals and just turns the window crank for you.

Interesting idea. I have shaved the handles on my 48 and have been searching the net and pricing poppers and solinoids. didn't know you could the windows with a keyfob. Whos system are you using?

Don't really want to say and promote them here, Long story. But, this style of universal power window can be found from a bunch of different manufactures. PM me if you need further info.

I Also replaced all my window felting so my windows operate smoothly. There really wasn't any material left so it was a must. Metal on Metal. Thank goodness I live within miles from Soft Seal/Metro Molded, they have store front so I can just go in and pick up what I need.

Lastly, My lower window retainer & guide is all rotted to hell on the drivers side front. So, if anyone has a line on a clean one, let me know. I've searched my local yards here in Minnesota with no result. It is also the same as 61 Olds, 61-62 Buick 4dr HT.

That sounds like a great idea in every situation other than pooring down rain. Speaking from experience make sure at least one door has some sort of mechanical back up. Electronics fail and batteries run down. Been there done that. Even new Corvettes have a door release cable in the trunk since they have no mechanical handle on the outside.

Backups are always good. I remember once in '76 when we were on Liberty and I had to send my backup into the bar to finish the fight...........but that's another story.

I'm going to be running a backup on the drivers door. Bicycle style cable that will have a pull under the hood.

PS. The door looms that I bought weren't going to hold all the wires that I needed, Inside diameter was to small. So, I went to the junk yard and found some great looms out of an early 90's Ford taurus, rear doors. They are about 8-inches long with a 1.25 hole on one end and 1-inch hole on the other. They are a "S" style. Most are an oblong shape or like a 3-inch round. these worked great. It sucked that I had to take the doors off to drill the holes though.

Hopefully this doesn't cross the line, but I've been frustrated with some of the custemer service skills from some venders lately. They act like your being a pain because they have something you want to buy. One place told me via email they had something. I called to pay for it, they told me they will call back. I had to call them back a week later and they told me they had my message already and they will call me back like they said. Wow, are you serious! O hell, why not tell it was, desert valeye auto parts. So I ordered it from The Filling Station, new. A couple hours later they called to opologis that they don't have it in stock, but have talked with their supplier and they will have it drop shipped, but it will be about a week and a half. Then about an hour later, they called me to tell my the manufacture got it out today and it will be early. Now that is costemer service!

That really looks nice. Be sure to report on the difference in ride and performance when it is all done.

A couple good photos of the suspension all done with disc conversion brackets on. I know the under side of the body isn't beautiful, my plans are to POR15 it and then rubberized under coat it.
