Distributor question
Distributor question
Hi...just joined up and STARTING on the restoration of my 72 442 W30.
Many years ago, before I ever knew the car would be worth anything, I put in a Mallory dual point distributor. (Seemed like a good idea at the time.)
I want to restore to original as close as I can. That would mean a stock distributor, part #1112036 (I believe from the research I've done). Probably hard to find, if not impossible, but finding a compatible distributor isn't a problem.
I'm wondering what the consensus is about putting in a stock 'appearing' HEI distributor???
I'm not planning on putting the car into shows for judging or anything like that. Just want it to look original but it seems to me that HEI is the better way to go. I'd appreciate others opinions.
Thanks.
Steve

Welcome, Steve!
It is possible to obtain a stock disty and put in an electronic conversion kit (like the lectric limited or pertronix.)
You would have the stock look with electronic low maintenance innards.
Of course you could also keep the points in the trunk in case the electronics ever died on the road - they are pretty easy to swap out.
