Hey all!😀. I hope everyone is doing well. When I swapped out the gauges in my 72 Supreme, I mounted my aftermarket tach to the steering column. Because of the where the lock cylinder is and the hazard flasher button, there's not a lot of room. My fix was black plastic zip ties, and while they get the job done, they're not the most aesthetic solution. I've tried the metal strap zip ties, but they won't draw up tight enough. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Use a large stainless hose clamp or if you don't like the bling paint it black. Another option is too put it by the A pillar that way you can see your guages

I used metal zip-ties and got them tight enough. Theres special tool for getting them tight, but good side-cutters will do. Mines mounted to column too.

 

A hose clamp will work just fine IF you cut/file clearance "notches" into the clamp where it's near those interference items...I've done this on a clamp while mocking up things for an old Sun tach I want to run on the column. The clamp is on the first "column sleeve"/cover ...the cover just in front of the steering wheel hub. Puts the front edge of the tach fairly close to the steering wheel but it doesn't interfere with your fingers, etc on the wheel.

And you can slip black heat shrink tubing over the clamp strap to pretty it up.

 

 

Are you saying you swapped out your U21 Rallye Pac option? (tic toc tach side?)

 

Goodness gracious no Allan😵 I wouldn't commit such a heinous crime...lol. If you recall, when I bought my Cutlass and posted my intro here on the board, the pics show a huge (and rather unsightly) guage pod that was "hung" in front of the ashtray. I got rid of that and put a triple guage set under the dash, rebuilt the ashtray area, and mounted a tach to my steering column. Sadly, my car wasn't equipped with the tic-toc-tach, just the clock.
