Body alignment at tear down
Body alignment at tear down
I’m getting ready to pull the hood, fenders from the 64. The panel fitment and alignment is very good on the car and i would like to preserve that. I have heard of guys drilling 1/8” holes through the hood hinge and hood/fender to realign after paint. Is there a better way so i dont have to drill through parts on my car? I am already bagging and tagging the hardware from each panel so it goes back together the way it was.
Sometimes the pin method works sometimes it does not. So long as nothing is altered then it should go back just as easy. Now if you changes bushings to the body and core support one change will alter it all. If it lined up nice you should be able to get it all back just as good. Take measurements at various corners . For example measure from the edge of the door to the edge of the fenders top, middle, and bottom on both sides , then measure the hood edges to fender edges back , center and front. Work your way back to front.
I just pulled my hood and fenders. I scribed around the hinges on hood and body, drilled holes thru into the hood and took clear pictures of the spacers under each mounting point. Document as you unbolt
The hood alignment greatly depends on making sure the fenders and core support go back to the same initial position. If it does not go back together as before, no amount of scribe marks or holes drilled will matter.
