Another one

Hey everybody, we'll i got Another One. Im slowly realizing what I got myself into. Still very novice at working on these cars but I feel way more confident because of my last build. I seen it was a original 4speed 442 and had to jump on it. Comes with the original numbers 400 block but has a 455 out of a 71 442 in it right now. Im really hoping the rust isnt as bad i think because its been a CA its whole life but it has been sitting outside for 30 years. Any recs and tips welcome.

Best of luck -- looks like you got your work cut out for you. I'm worried that the rust is at least as bad as you think it is.

The rust is horrible just from what we can see in the pictures- which means the reality of it is even worse.

BUT... it's not unfixable, and a 4-speed 442 is worth saving. I'd be embarrassed to say how much I'd pay to drag that thing home.

How's the frame?

Doc.

I would guess that's a 1971 455 out of a big car based on the carburetor number and the lack of notched valve covers (from what I can see)...
Very little difference between the different 455's offered in 1971. Everything was 8.5:1.

Thanks everybody! Yea I know its going to be a long process and ALOT of work but im excited. Really enjoyed working on my last one.

Yea the frame didn't look too much better either. But wont know for sure until I tow it out of there and start tearing it down. My plan is to rebuild completely with fun upgrades to the suspension, transmission, and engine. Keep interior original. I will post updates as I go. Im just excited to have a 4 speed 442 and since I have my other one up and running I think it will help me be patient with the process.

If anyone knows any good shops to sand blast the frame in CA lmk please. Thanks!!!

Finally got her back home in San Francisco. Started tearing her down. The journey officially starts.
