‘84 Cutlass 455 BBO Build

Kinda just wondering about transmission and if i would need to change my differential, i’m waiting for the engine to be ready from a machining shop .060 over left the stroke the same. But back on topic i was thinking of a 700r4 trans or maybe get a th400. I’m not to sure what size my diff is but i’ll do some research. Also what is a realistic goal for power on these engines, im waiting on a camshaft kit from COMP Cams
234/249
and I bought my rotating assembly from CNC-Motorsports.

Anything helps
Chris

The 700R4 isn't strong and will be questionable, even with upgrades. Does your car have an overdrive transmission? It will be a 2004R and if built up properly, you have the best of both worlds. The factory 7.5" rear is weak and will needs upgrades or better yet replaced.

I believe it’s a th350 i’ve done some research on it and no luck finding anything but most likely i’m right unless they have the same transmission fluid pan.

Is a 200r4 good for a more torquey engine and also any recommendations on a 2400+ stall torque converter

With the 455 you're gonna need to build whatever trans you put in there. The factory diff will be a 7.5 and could be a 2.15, 2.28, or possibly a 2.73 (but that's VERY unlikely).
You could try and find a G-Body 8.5, but you're going to spend some coin on one. You'd be better off getting a new 9" for a G-Body. It should be something close to what you'd be looking at for a 8.5" + a refresh, and you can set it up how you like.
Personally I'd look at putting the money into a reputably built 200-4R and the 9" and call it a day. In the long run you'll be a lot happier.

Thanks for all the advice i’m looking into a 9” ford diff that’s made for g-body’s but if something a little cheaper comes up i’ll most likely end up buying it but and Im not sure if anyone is familiar with MonsterTransmission but they have a 200r4 for about $4500 with everything i’m looking for considering im going to need a 2800 stall converter

Check out Extreme Automatics out of Ohio. I bought a 200R4 from them last year and so far it's been great.
