72 olds

Here are some pictures of my 72 olds,

I got it from a guy in oregon that was on his way to take it to the scrap yard. when i got it is was mostly trashed it had no dash, headliner was ripped up, had bucket seats from a 80s honda, and the carpet was in bad shape. some one had a bbc in it so it had mounts welded in to it. dont worry i brought it back to olds(i have nothing against chebbys i just dont think they belong in an olds). needed quarters and floor pans other than that its just a plain 72 f-85 it did come with the cutlass s hood but it had f-85 door panels.

i'm making a 442 clone out of it so sense i have gotten it i have put in new quarters, floorpans, spoiler and ram-air hood, paint, front disk, bucket seats, center console.

Here are some pictures.

You're doing an amazing job. It's gone from 'gone' to beautiful. I can see it finished already. Is that Matador Red?

Q: on the rad support, are there just the bolts on the fender that hold it there? If you unbolted the fender, would it be held in place by the bolts on the A pillar and cowl? Reason I ask is I also have no inner liner, but want to take out the rad support for cleanup and repaint. I think that means also taking out the headlight buckets too?

EDIT: wow! more pics came through while I was posting. Looks fabulous. Love the big workspace you have - I'm jealous

Its a dupont red rs911 is the code.

The rad support is held in by the fenders and two bolts thru the frame.

The fenders bolt into the cowl.

Awesome job, I love seeing where it was and what it is now. A lesser enthusiast would have just called this a parts car and parted it out. If the frame is good and the shell is there its restorable! Haha. Keep em' comin!

Thats about what mine looked like when I started. It's a labor of love and don't keep track of what is spent. I learned that before. Just make it what you want. Why are you cloning it? Just curious. Are you going to add the W-30 side stripes? Looks good!

Who did you use for the W25 hood? Looks like it still has some fitment issues?

Well in all honesty, muscle cars usually just look ten times better in the higher performance trim. Those deep set grills, the ram air hood, stripes, spoiler, it might not be original, but it damn sure makes the car look amazing

What a nice build. Did you have any of the parts stashed away before you bought the car or did you have to buy everything as you went along?
What are the specs on the drive train?

I had some stuff stashed away. i had to buy most of the stuff for this build. i did have a console and center shifter already, had a set of tinted windows and had the all the disk brakes stuff. i still need grills, bumpers and weather stripping.

The drive train- 455 bored .030 high compression pistons, frieball crane cam.
200-4r, 4,10 rear end gears with 28 inch tires (275-60-15).

Did you use the measurements in the Assembly Manual or just eyeball it? I'd love to see the inside of the trunk where the bolts come through. Curious to see how much clearance they get from the inside structure of the lid. If you can do a pic of each side that way, I'd really appreciate it.

Great job.

After looking at the first few pics.....Wow ur really in deep!

I'm doing the same type project and am also looking for bumpers and an oai hood. How much was he glass/tek one and does it fit well?

I found bumpers and a hood at Tamraz Parts.....has anyone dealt with them?

It's about a grand for all plus shipping.....

The hood i bought was from tamraz which is a glass/tek hood. it was 710$ to my door. i think it fit like any aftermarket fiberglass hood, some fit better then others.

I bought the dual cutout bumper from Tamraz. The shipping is phenomenal. The bumper arrived extremely well packed. Shipping costs were reasonable and time delivery was very fair considering it had to cross intl border and be inspected by the customs people. The quality is first rate and it fit perfectly. There is a subtle small difference in the bottom of the bumper that you can't see when mounted - appears to be a slight bend - but equal on both sides. Not enough of an issue that you would lose sleep over it. I'm very happy with mine.

As far as the hood, I know which one you're talking about from them. It's the same one that Parts Place is flogging.

Can't afford a Thornton, but have you given any thought to fibre-concepts? They have reproduced a 71/72 hood that looks very good and has reinforced metal areas where the hinges and hood release bolt in. http://www.fiberpartsconcepts.com/1285404.html
Have a look. They don't ship up here, but their gelcoat finish on the product and their claim to fitment is similar to what Troy Thornton claims. If it's as good as they say, I'll find a way to buy it and ship it up here *somehow*.

Here are the pictures of inside the trunk lid. where the holes go thru. u would think the bolt would be more thru the center of that circle but they don't all are like this. they have the three bolts the other one goes thru the big hole.

Thx alek
I was wondering if it does that. I've only played with mine by dry fitting it and taking an eyeball look at where it will punch through. Did you have any plans to install the 3rd bolt so it looks more factory? I bought my wing from Tamraz. It came with a mounting kit and even had instructions for mounting IIRC. It's out in the shed and I haven't really looked at it for 2 years now. When I do my front grills and new stoneshield in the spring, I'll take it out and get it painted at the same time. thx for the pic.
