72 Cutlass

Well I bought this car in the fall looking for a winter project. The car seemed to be a good runner and I had full intentions to clean up the body and repaint this year. After driving it around for a month or so the engine developed a ticking noise. Closer inspection reveled 2 bad valves. Long story short the body work got put on hold. I picked up a 455 to replace the 350 that was in the car. I got the engine back from the machine shop so now I can get it together. I have also done a 4 wheel disc conversion, rebuilt the 4 spd tranny and the rear end is sitting on stands awaiting the arrival of the posi carrier. I also found rusted floors so I cut out and replaced those. These are a few pictures of the progress.

Looks like an interesting project. Check your VIN, does it start 3F87?

Not too often we see cars with 350 M20 transmissions. Is that combo, original to the car?

Nice work on the floors, looks like a great project especially having a 4spd.

Ya, that's some very sharp work CC. Front/rear discs, 455, 4 speed, posi. Talk about doing it right... Bet that car is glad you found it.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Allan R,I am not sure what tranny the car originally came with. It's a 4 spd Saginaw which I know is not a stock tranny. I considered swapping out for a Muncie but I'm going to hold off as I would rather throw a 5 spd into the car than another 4spd.

Well the engine is pretty much done. Just painting a few more items then I can prep it to go in the car. Pretty excited to see it complete in the car. Not to mention when I get it fired for the first time.

Looking good so far. Any pics of the car before body work or in progress? What's the final decision on color - are you staying with the original Radiant Green (code 36) or something completely different?
