70 camshaft spacer?
70 camshaft spacer?
I recently got my 70 cutlass convertible back after 10 years - it left in great shape and came back in pieces. The guys who had it tried to turn it into a hotrod - and failed pretty badly. After removing over a gallon of water from the engine block and trying to get all of the rust out of it - I sent the engine off for a complete rebuild - I figured it was better to spend a lot to keep the original engine instead of buying a new one! Anyway after the rebuild was underway the shop calls and says that there is a camshaft spacer that was left off the engine when they modified it (along with water channel sealant - which led to the gallon of water in the engine) apparently this particular spacer was only made for 2 years- and they can't find one. I'm not super savvy about engine work - can anyone shed any light on the subject?
The only cam "spacer" is the stamped steel eccentric held on by the bolt that also holds the gear. The eccentric runs the mechanical fuel pump. Non-stock, there could be a spacer between the flange of the cam and the block, if the block surface was badly worn (a rare occurrence).
