68 Cutlass Supreme

I just picked up a Cutlass Supreme. After hearing about this car for over a year, I was finally able to get ahold of the owner and look at it. Story is, the car was in a head-on collision back in the early 80s. The front clip and frame were destroyed with the exception of the pass front fender. The car was then taken off the frame and set on blocks, were it has sat for the last 25+ years.

The interior is all original. The dash is uncracked, carpet is gone but the original floor mats are still there. The car was originally a light blue, white vinyl top, with white interior. The car was repainted just prior to being wrecked.

So I guess I will be doing a frame off resto on her. The original engine has survived the trip and is still with the car. The original 4 bbl carb and transmission is in the guys 70 Cutlass. I can buy those also, but at a price!

The car has the normal rust issues (back window, windshield, and lower quarters). Floorboards are all solid. The roof is heavily pitted. But in the paperwork with the car is the original window sticker, reliability accessory checkoff sheet, and Olds Maintenance Record Card.

Paperwork pics. When I start on it, I will have to see if the buildsheet is also under the gas tank.

That's cool paperwork, especially the dealer invoice and the maintenance record card. I wonder if you can find that original owner, assuming she is still alive. Note that it's "Miss" E. L. Oliver. She might have been a young woman then and thus more likely be alive now 43 years later.

One of those looks like a "broadcast card," I think it's called. The one that says '68 Youngmobiles' on it. I have a card like that for my '73 wagon. I can't tell what document that is in the 2nd photo.

Good luck on the project. You certainly have your work cut out for you.

Just of the H of it, I did a little online people searching on that name and turned up this:

http://www.peoplesmart.com/psp.aspx?...physboro&ps=IL

Not to say it's her, but Murphysboro, Illinois is only about 30 miles from Dongola. The initials match up as well. Unfortunately, she died in 2005, so there's no chance of contacting her, unless you use a seance.

Her age at death was 64, which means she was born in 1941 and thus would have been 27 at the time she bought the car. Very reasonable. Who knows.

This also means she likely never got married, which is possible, since her name stayed the same.

Interesting. That ID card shows her name as "Elsie" Louise Oliver while the websearch turned up "Effie" Louise Oliver. I agree that it's likely to be the same person given the same middle name.

I believe 71 they switch to a different body style on the supreme.

No frame or rearend. I did get the original pass front fender with it. The guy I bought it from had it for 12 years, waiting for a resto on it. He never had the time or money to do it.
