The 65 Cutlass Convertible Build

I picked up this 65 looking while I was looking to buy a atv. I was told that is was restored but was involved in a accident shortly after. From a visual I see that the front horns on the frame are bent towards the passenger so it was hit on the driver. Overall the car is in ok shape. Will keep you posted. Here are some pictures the day I bought it.

How far off are the frame horns? Do you think it will be able to be straightened?

They are not that far off. I know it can be straightened. I'll try and post some pictures. I do have another convertible frame from a 64 that was going to the crusher so Ill be swapping frames shortly.

I’ve been able to do some things to the car since my first post.

The car has been sandblasted, primer and body work has started. Ordered new floors and have them welded. Found rust in common areas but was able to cut metal off the donor car that was going to the crusher.

Thanks!! This guy had a 67 Camaro for sell as well but it was too far gone in my opinion. I honestly wanted the car for the frame to use on my 64 F-85 Convertible but this one was in better shape then the 64. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a frame for the 64 one day.

Things were moving along pretty good. The body shop needed the core support to repair the crack where it was hit so they could mock up the fenders, hood etc. Picked it up from storage but I guess the strap I had on the trailer didn’t hold and it slid right off on the highway. Luckily traffic was very light and no one was hurt. I had to take the next exit and loop around. As I was standing on the shoulder waiting a chance to run out to grab it and comes a 18wheeler. I figure he would move over a lane since he was able but instead he ran right over the core support😞. Once I made it to the body shop with the support they gave me the news that I already knew. So I started looking for another core support that wasn’t going to hurt the pocket book.

Took some time but was able to find one at a good price. Now it’s time to get the new frame build up so I can swap the body over.

Started laying out parts. Got my rear end back from powder coat and started putting it together.

Very nice!
That's gotta feel good.
I'm waiting on my rear and control arms to come back from powder coating myself.
Keep going!

Dude was a A-hole. He blew his air horn as he drove by. I’ll just hang on to it just in case.

Some more work was done yesterday. Work on the rear of the frame and installed the brakes. Will need to make a hardware store run since a lot of the new parts don’t come with all the hardware needed. I’m hoping to get everything done before the weekend is out but we’ll see.

Found these 17inch Year One Cutlass wheels for sale at a good price. Went with a 255/45/17 tire in the rear for now but would like to go wider if possible.

It feels real good!! I’ll never paint another rear end if I can help it. I want the undercarriage to look just as good as the body. Lol

Thank you!! I honestly was going to buy the all chrome set when Year One had a special a month ago but saw this set on Marketplace under $1,000.

Theres a time and place for everything.
What a boring world it would be if we all built the same cars.

Got the old frame off the car and off to the body shop. Hopefully it won’t be too long.

Started back on this build. I originally bought a LM7/4l60e from a 2002 Tahoe that I was going to have custom build but a good buddy of mine called to let me know he would be selling his custom crate build LS3/Tremec 6 speed and asked if I knew anyone looking. Told him I would pass the word. 2 weeks later I called him and asked if he still had it and that I might be interested. He must have really wanted me to get his setup cause he included all accessories, clutch and bell housing. I was shocked!! 😳. He then told me he was installing a LT4/10 speed auto.
