64 Starfire Front end/ steering and break project up next, advice welcome

I’m thinking I got the parts now that I was needing to finish the front end work that was started a few weeks ago. I had the ball joints replaced next is the inner and outer tie rods, as well as the bushings for the pivot shaft. Replacing these bushings looks like it is going to be a real job. Maybe they haven’t been touched in 60 years. I also got a new breakBooster and master cylinder new break shoes. She likes to veer a little to left and I’m hoping the front end stuff will help with everything. I will post pictures of current break booster as well as my steering wheel, which is never really straight. When I’m going straight the wheel is at about a 10 and a 4 o clock position.

The wheel is turned a little in this picture but to stay straight it’s usually at around a 10 and 4 o’clock position. I’ve often wondered if it was the original wheel. It does appear to be the original color of the car.

Are you going to go with Chineseum parts ???? Or do you want to go with N.O.S. U.S.A. made parts ?????

It is certainly intelligent to go with N.O.S. U.S.A. made parts --- it is a once - for - lifetime job, that way .......

If that is the way you want to go --- Always best to simply call me --- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935...

I’ll keep that in mind I already have the parts I needs or this right now I am thinking. I got the break stuff from USA parts supply. I forget where the bushings and front end stuff came from. eBay I think. I’ve been trying to keep the Chineseum off of it.

If they are "break" parts, they probably are chinesium. If they are "brake" parts they may be American made!

I’ve had this thing since 2017 I had absolutely no clue. Any idea what the lever with the red ink pen cap is?

foot actuator? Not sure what you mean? Sorry I’m a learner. The red cap must be the tilt lever because the other is def. the signal. Pretty cool that it telescopes. I think I like it.

Then, soak those nuts with penetrating oil several times. If you just heat them up dry, you stand a chance of permanently ruining those threads. If you have the hexagon type thread cutter, you could then turn them with an ordinary wrench. If only the round ones are available, then here's a special tool for getting into those tight spots:

New shims would be recommended. But, the shop doing the alignment might still have some in stock, if the ones pictured don't turn out to be as bad as they look

Progress seems to be down to the brakes setting

New master cylinder and booster.

Best shots I could get on the front end progress. Amazing what a difference. My only concern so far has been getting the drum brakes right. I’ve read some things about them taking time to
seat. I’ve been on a few test drives and seems to be doing ok. All four brakes are working. Brake booster seems to be doing it’s job. But because I’m young I do t know exactly what to be expecting with drum brakes and big ol car. I live in a hilly kind of place. Just want to make sure it’s safe. Not really looking to switch to discs at this time. This page has been great help.

I have a 64 as well, my brakes are the touchiest brakes in the history of the world. Really have to have a light foot, or they'll lock up.

If you want to see what the correct steering wheel looks like, you can browse my albums: https://classicoldsmobile.com/g/user/68983

Regarding the foot actuator for the Wonderbar radio: on cars so-equipped, there were two floor switches. One for switching bright/dim headlights, and the other for a "seek" function on the radio. Your radio does not appear to be a Wonderbar, so you would only have one floor switch. My 64 has it, but I don't have the old am radio back in the car quite yet. Not sure if any of my interior pics show the two floor switches or not.

I almost like the one I got better as far as it telescopes and such. lol I also like it’s look.

My brakes are not so touchy, I’ve been messing with the brake pedal a little bit turning out the rod to the brake booster. Before all the work, it was way more touchy.
