Finally Decided to revive this project, it’s been almost 4 years since I’ve worked on it. So far I got the 4l80e up against the motor so I could figure out a crossmember and measure for a driveshaft. Plan is to do drivetrain first, I’m going to put my turbocharged 350 from the 66 in the 62 for now but still plan on building a big block blower motor.
I ordered a tranny crossmember from chassisworks but it’s been over a month and it hasn’t shipped yet. Was going to start with that then order a driveshaft and new rear shocks and springs. I got the turbo motor out of the 66 and will put that in after I freshen it up.
I am looking to buy new rear wheels. Looking for a 15x12 with 4.375 backspacing. I wanted to stay with an old school look but et mags cannot make the wheel I want in the specs I need, might be willing to go with a modern wheel but would have to be a bead lock and I am only wanting to spend as much as $400 a wheel. Show me what you guys think would look good or just tell me a brand to look into.
Keep up the work and thanks for update. Mine is still on back burner have thoughts of letting it go lately. My 🐌 pace is not getting it done quick enough. LOL
It was $550 I believe. Obviously have not used it yet but playing with it in the house it feels great, my father ended up buying one for his car as well.
I noticed I never showed off the wheels and tires I bought for the rear. Car has been in storage since last summer, “ownership” keeps bouncing back and forth between my dad and I since neither of us can bring ourselves to sell it.
I want to say they are billet specialties( first name that came to mind) and pretty sure I did 15x12. No real plans but I would like to bring it home or get it to my dads at some point, we’d both like to see it finished.
Not much of an update but I like to let you guys know I have not given up on her. It looks like one of my scorpions is leaving Saturday which will give me room to bring the cutlass home. I also recently was given a great deal on a low mile Mullins Vega box.
I have two cars I would like to sell but need a bit of work first, once they are gone I can start. I’m thinking another month or two to get them squared away and gone. The plan is start with easier projects, steering(now that I finally bought a box), brake master and lines, driveshaft etc.
I got the brakes plumbed, a kirkey seat mounted and a strange driveshaft for it. I bought a strange spool for it too but have not purchased larger axle to match yet.
No one bought the car, decided I’d regret selling anyways so I have been working on it here and there. My 424 isn’t built yet so I’ve put the 350 from my 66 f85 in this car, going compound turbo instead of a single this time.
I’m not happy about the big turbo placement but I didn’t have much of an option. I’m sure I’ll grenade the 350 but I’m ok with that
Me too, I’ve been enjoying it. I’m actually in the garage now looking it over to see if I can do anything, unfortunately looks like I need to buy parts and gas for the welder. I’ve upgraded the 350 since it was in the 66 and with the addition of larger/compound turbos she’ll be a jetfire on steroids
I've been wanting to do this to mine.
I can't remember the guys name that had one in n. Carolina. Brad maybe. But any way .short wheel base big tire car. Was my plan ,but it just sits
It’s been about a year and not much has changed, but enough has changed thst I finally feel like I’m getting somewhere. Ideas and taste change over time, at least for me. I decided to go with a “traditional” look at feel( want it to look like it could have been built in the 60’s).
I had the wheels blasted then I coated them in graphite to give a magnesium ish look.
I decided to go away from the 4l80 in favor of a 5 speed manual. The transmission swap left me needing a longer driveshaft or to set the engine back. Moving the engine(about 5.5”) was cheaper and alleviated packaging issues in front of the engine. Hot side to small turbo is done( decided to get it running and dialed in before adding the secondary turbo).
The most recent thing I’ve done is to modify a balancer bolt so I can run a drive spindle for the vacuum pump( hoping to ad a pulley for belt driven fuel pump next).
Very cool! Love the looks of those back tires in there but I am sure it is a total pain to pull the tires off, lol. I assume you have to drop the rear end?
