"442" logo or "Oldsmobile" script?
I recently purchased a set of '72 OEM 442 grilles that I'm going to put on my '72 Supreme. I'm trying to decide if I want to use the Oldsmobile script or the 442 logo. Drilling holes for the script is not an option for me, so the only way I would be able to secure it is with some type of adhesive. Problem with that is there isn't much contact area on the grille for the adhesive, so I dunno how well it would stick.
Option number two is the 442 logo. Obviously they would be a problem free solution, but as I said, I have a Supreme. So I would be wearing the 442 logo on a Supreme.
What would you do?
Thanks,
Dave

Cool grills.
Not being a 442 why not leave the script area clean...blank?
442 would be a little cheezy IMO, especially with Cutlass scripts elsewhere.
Olds script would be my second choice. But it won't bolt up...leave it blank.
Try it and post some pictures. We'll vote on it...if it matters.

Make a rectangular plate out of plastic just big enough to mount the Olds script on with adhesive, with some mounting screws/pegs to go through the factory holes. Then paint the plate to match the inside grille area. This way, if you ever sell the grilles or go a different direction, you haven't messed up a nice set of grilles. A bit more work, but you keep your options.
It's similar to the 2013 Camaro Hot Wheels version since they used the ZL1 grille instead of giving it its own. The "ZL1" lettering shape was already cast into the grille. GM just made a little cover plate to mount the Hot Wheels logo on and it fit perfectly over the ZL1 indentations. Boom!

The original owner of my current Supreme put in the 442 grilles with Oldsmobile script when the car was almost new. I'll have to go down to the garage and see how it's attached. I planned to pull the grilles to install NOS Supreme grilles in the next few weeks anyway.

If it were me, I would go with the Oldsmobile script since there was never a 70-72 Cutlass Supreme hardtop 442. 442 emblems never came on that body style from the factory. If it were a convertible or a fastback body then I might use the 442 emblems as a tribute or clone. My car is far from correct. I didn’t put any emblems but I added a lot of features I liked including 442 grills and rear bumper, w25 hood, (incorrect) w30 stripes, as well as many options I could find. It’s your car build it how you like.
