1970 442 Pace car?

Need some help, Couple of questions for the Pace car numbers guys.
Came across a 1970 442 convertable in a garage for...a long time, Really rough shape, but the owner has all documents included for a 344 car.
Owner said its an original Pace car but I didn't see any paperwork on this, and I'm not up on how many or what options there were?
This car is a 455, T400 trans, white, w-25 hood. there was a pile of parts on top of the car so I really couldn't see much of the interior.

Any information will help, as I'm trying to put todays value on this extremely rough... "Pace Car"?
I've owned/restored quite a few 442's over the years, but never a pace car.

Brad

I think it should have a Y74 on the cowl tag. Others will chime in to confirm.

Yes, it should have a Y74 on tag, I will confirm, But I could not open the hood. I'm hoping for some good information here and run the numers plate for more percise info. as I get up to speed in Pace cars.
Should have E head, correct? Because its not a w-30.
Courious on what options were installed for a 70 Y74 car. If this car is ligit, I will preform a complete frame off, as it would be worth the efforts.
TY,
Brad

Pace cars were built by the Lansing factory, I am not positive that I have seen a non-Lansing pace car!

Like Scott said Y74 on the cowl tag will tell the story! You may want to get the picture of the entire cowl tag and VIN# so we can see if it's a festival car or just a Pace car.

The list is on 442.com by VIN numbers.

except for the Y74 on the cowl tag you would need original documentation saying it was a pace car replica. The vin should start out with 344670M if it is in fact a 442 pace car but that does not guarantees a pace car just says its was a 442 built in Lansing. As said above compare VIN to known lists

Pace cars were white with black interiors with a special stripe paint job and Indy stickers on the doors (some supposedly were even taken off the cars to sell them). Otherwise I think any option you could order on any 442 could be ordered on a pace car. Need to see the cowl tag for Y74 or documentation that says it was ordered that way.

Build date

How did you determine the build date of 6-26-70. I believe the pace cars were made before then. Or was 6-26-70 the "sold" date

Protoplate date shows 6-26-70, figured its the "Sold Date".

I'm curious as to what Wise Performance's car would be worth. I'm asking because I discovered an authentic 70 442 Pace Car in a nearby garage. Car is probably the same condition as described above, needing full quarters, fenders and rockers. I was able to get the car started with reasonable compression (125ish on average). The owner has had the car since the mid-70s, but would like to sell it. So we're trying to establish a value.

IMO a "festival car" is worth more than a regular pace.

Allyolds link to "track cars list"

The accepted terms: Track car= cars 1 and 2 (no Y74) created before code
Festival car= cars present at INDY during that weekend.
Pace car= cars not listed but have the Y74 on cowl tag.

Hard to throw out a figure, with out multiple pictures.
Even NADA classic drew a blank on a pace car.

Good question?
Need to establish a value when restored.
Determine what it would cost to restore.
Hopefully purchase at a reasonable price so you can make it feasible or you're already upside down on the project, unless you enjoy restoring cars and throwing $$$$ around like most of us.
Figure I'll have 40k invested in restoration + purchased price, And thats not including my time.

To me a 442 pace car "should" be priced like a W30 automatic convertible, about the same amount of total production 268 pace cars vs 264 W30 convertibles but I have yet to see a 4-speed pace car (where any made?)

But they tend not to go for as much as a W30. I have seen the prices going higher and higher for the pace cars. To me the 70 Olds and the 69 Camaro are two of the nicest pace cars ever

I've heard of a few. This Y74 Cutlass 4 speed was discussed a couple years ago
